As a child Pete Seeger started to develop political and social ideas. His politics deepened in 1961 when he was convicted for contempt of congress. During this period Pete Seeger participated in the civil rights and anti-war movements of the 60's which then in 1966 is when he recorded his anti-war anthem "Bring 'em Home," which included lyrics opposing the Vietnam war.

This song addresses Social and political issues in the war. This is because when they say they will give no more brave lives it's saying how we won't draft and send anymore young boys into the war to get them killed when the war is unnecessary and it also mentions how it will make the politicians sad meaning if they stop the war and protest against it, it's going to make politicians sad and mad since it was their idea and choice to make a draft and join the Vietnam war.
