I would choose Sacagawea, as a member of the Corps of Discovery to go with me. Agaidika tribe was the tribe that she was born into. At the age of twelve (1800) she was kidnapped by a group of Hidatsa. With the Hidatsa, she was a slave to them. From her life experiences, she is a very strong women and I think that she would be a great person to take on a 2 year trip. She is very helpful for very many reasons as well. Without Sacagawea, we wouldn’t be able to have the trade that we did with the Natives. She truly connected us with the Natives and we were able to make a positive piece of history with them.
During the trip, she also had a baby with her. Sacagawea had given birth to a son that winter named Jean Baptiste. She brought him along, carrying him in a cradleboard tied to her back. He was only two months old at the beginning of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. When, Lewis and Clark met with the local chief to trade for horses, they brought in Sacagawea to interpret everything that the Natives were saying for them. She was very special for this reason as well (as I mentioned in paragraph 1). She was a legend in history and she was basically considered a walking dictionary as well!

Plant
Bitterroot: A bitteroot was found on the Lewis and Clark Expedition and that was when it was first encountered. At that time, in late August of 1805, instead of looking at the flower, Meriwether Lewis saw and tasted the root. Lewis did not like it at all and thought very poorly of it but it still got attention and Lewis wrote about it in his journal. In a following article, its states, “Cilindric and as white as snow throughout, except some small parts of the hard black rind which they had not separated in the preparation… [the roots] became perfectly soft by boiling, but had a very bitter taste, which was nauseous to my palate, and [I] transferred them to the Indians who had eat them heartily.” This piece writing is from Lewis’s journal.

Animal
Grizzly Bear: A Grizzly bear was found on the Lewis and Clark Expedition as well, which happened in 1805. Grizzly bears are large and range in color from very light tan (almost white) to dark brown. The hump on their back is where a mass of muscles attach to the bear’s backbone and give the bear additional strength for digging and other things (fighting). They have very long claws on their front feet and very big teeth. Their babies mean a lot to them and it is very important that you don’t go near them (nor take them away). Grizzly bears can be found in woodlands, forests, alpine meadows and prairies. In many habitats they prefer areas along rivers and streams so that they can catch fish to eat. They are even found in the National Park of Lewis and Clark today! “The grizzly bears were truly the kings of the western plains.”

The Walla Walla Tribe:

The Walla Wallas lived in a village in present day southern Washington. The tribe was very nice and welcoming towards the Americans, and they could communicate pretty well with the help of two translators. The first would translate from Walla Walla to Shoshone for Sacagawea, who would translate into English for the Corps. In his journal on April 28, 1806, Lewis stated, "We found a Shoshone woman, prisoner among these people by means of whome and Sacagawea we found the means of conversing with the Walla Wallas." Yellepit was very interested in trade with the Americans, and he offered Clark a horse and gave the expedition firewood and food in exchange for Clark's sword, ammunition, and trade items. Yellepit enjoyed hosting the Americans, so he convinced them to stay a third day with the tribe in exchange for horses, food, canoes, and information for the route ahead.
