Pierrot has a nice life in France. However, after Pierrot's father leaves and commits suicide after his drunken rage, and Pierrot's mother dies from Tuberculosis, Pierrot is sent to an orphanage. He is then adopted by his aunt, Beatrix, who lives and works in a house at the top of a mountain. Pierrot is told to refer to himself as Pieter, and to leave his life in France behind. As it turns out, the house at the top of the mountain is owned by Adolf Hitler.

Pierrot is told to not make acquaintance with Hitler, though he goes against his aunt's wishes. He begins to read Hitler's propaganda, writings, and joins the Hitler Youth. Pierrot is constantly rude to the staff at the house, and thinks of himself very highly.

Later on, Pierrot learns of an assassination plan conducted by his aunt and other staff at the house. Right before Adolf Hitler tries a dessert, Pierrot reveals that it is poisoned. The staff and Beatrix are executed.

World War II is not going well for Germany, and most staff members depart by nights. With the war over, Pierrot has nowhere to go. He is found and taken by American soldiers.

Historical Scene/ Reference (pg. 147) - Everett

From page 147, "At first, I was a dispatch runner on the Western Front, passing messages between the armies stationed at the French and Belgian borders. But then I fought in the trenches at Ypres, in the Somme and at Passchendaele. Towards the end of the war I was almost blinded in a mustard-gas attack. Afterwards I sometimes thought that it would have been better to go blind than witness the indignities that the German people were made to suffer after their capitulation."

This is a historically accurate detail added in the book, as proven by https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/adolf-hitler-wounded-in-british-gas-attack. Hitler really was on the Western Front during the time of WWI and was temporarily blinded by mustard gas, but his vision was fine soon after.

How The Boy at the Top of the Mountain is Similar to Megamind

A core part of "The Boy at the Top of the Mountain" is how the main character Pierrot/ Pieter slowly becomes influenced by Adolf Hitler and becomes a horrible person. Megamind follows a similar path, when he lands in the prison he is still the good person by nature that we see at the end of the film but he is influenced by the prisoners to become a villain. Megamind does go on to become a better person like Pieter started to do by the end of the book.

Comparison of The Boy on Top of the Mountain to JoJo Rabbit

JoJo Rabbit and The Boy on Top of the Mountain are two well-written stories that show the impact of World War 2 on young protagonists. These stories both share the background of Nazi Germany and Hitler, but they still differ in storytelling, theme, and development of the characters.
Historical setting
both jojo rabbit and the boy on top of the mountain take place during world war 2. They both are set in Germany. They both talk about the ideology of the german and the consequences of the war.
Exploring growth
Both stories explore the growth that the protagonist experience that changes their ideology. The stories also explore the theme of both main characters losing their innocence throughout the story during the chaos that is caused by the war.
Character development
in JoJo Rabbit the main character goes from good to bad and becomes a better person throughout the movie.
Tone
JoJo Rabbit uses more comedy to make its tone bright instead of dark. It uses humor to make something so dark, bright. This makes the story face darker themes in unique ways that make the book more interesting.
The Boy on Top of the Mountian uses a sadder tone. This book dives into the conflicts Perriot faces and the ideology that he develops throughout the book.
In conclusion, the very different tones of the two books work well each book and make them great in their own way. Jojo Rabbit uses humor and The Boy on Top of the Mountian does not try to brighten up the tone and goes straight into it.

In the passage and most of the letter Hitler details why his antisemitism is just. But specifically in this passage, Hitler details how antisemitism based on emotion is unjust and how his antisemitism is based on fact. This gives details to Hitler's motivation in the book and in real life. It shows his confidence in his thoughts and why it was so easy to sway Pierrot after all, most people believe anything said in confidence.

Representation: How were the people who lived during this time represented in this book

The book "The Boy on Top of the Mountain" shows us the lives of individuals who were affected by the war. It shows the struggles and what these people go through. Perriot accepts the ideology of Germany. How Perriots development was shown lets us see the conflicts and how Perriot is unsure of everything which people during this war may have experienced as they realized what the war really was.
Anshel represents the Jewish people who were mainly affected by the war. The book shows the struggles that he went through which many Jews went through during this time. The things that Jewish people went through are represented well in this book even if they mainly focus on German people and not as much on the Jews who are directly targeted.
In conclusion, The Boy on Top of the Mountain gives a good representation of the people who lived during this war. It shows the impact the war had on those people. They also do not focus on only one group of people during this war, but multiple like Jews and German people.
