The state government was one of the main opposers to it because without child labor the workforce would weaken intensely and almost certainly cause an economic depression. other opposers were the factory owners because the children could do many thing much more effectively than adults and the factory would most likely go out of business.

The national child labor committee was one of the main people going against it. Even though the committee knew the economy would crash if child labor ended they still fought to end it. they held riots and rebellions against the states but they were often outmatched by the states police and troops. They investigated the effects of child labor and persisted to end child labor no matter the cost.

Shops were turning into large factories and the jobs were mainly easy to work. Children with poor families were sent to work to provide for their family and get food on their plates. Many people liked to have children in their factories because they were small and could fit in small spaces. Also they wouldn’t have to pay them as much as adults.

Nineteenth century reformers and labor organizers wanted to stop child labor and improve conditions in the workplace. It took a market crash to persuade the crowd to this cause. During the Great Depression, Americans wanted all available jobs to go to adults rather than children. Both types of child labor declined in the early nineteenth century.

Samuel Gompers led the New York Labor Movement. He tried to stop child labor from being used. He didn't like child labor and wanted children to be safe instead of put at risk because they have to work. Children work under very strict and bad conditions, and the jobs are often very dangerous. Most of the time companies needed children because of their small size. They needed them to fit in small spaces that adults can't go into. Children who worked wouldn't be able to go to school.
