Some of the negative effects that come from video games can be that the individual becomes addicted to these games. Just like scrolling on TikTok or Instagram, video games can release dopamine. Due to this spike in dopamine, the brain will begin to yearn for that feeling, causing addiction. This can also affect the individual's social skills as they may not be experiencing many real-world interactions.

Video games are a modern American activity children from preschool until emerging adulthood engage in for pleasure, for competition, and cognitive development. Following rules challenges them to achieve a successful outcome through earning positive feedback and reward, as well as overcoming challenges through trial and error. Piaget challenged that cognitive development from playing need to be exercised and play is a useful way of achieving that. Donkey Kong was the very first video game I started playing at age 4 or 5 and it helped my learn how to enjoy problem solving at a young age.

Santrock, J. W. (2024).

Nintendo was founded in 1889, first known as Nintendo Koppai. The Full name translates to "Leave luck to heaven" with Koppai translating to "Bone Tiles" which were a specific type of playing card style in China and Japan, made with materials similar to bone dominoes and Mahjong tiles. This company achieved instant success upon its inception. While not marketed to children specifically at first, once the company met with Disney in 1959, they were given permission to print Disney characters onto their cards, allowing for even more success and cultural impact. The company, upon building its success, began experimenting with a multitude of ideas. Fast forward to the late 70s and early 80s, they began to make arcade games, and in 1981, the game "Donkey Kong" became an instant hit, and the future of the company became solidified in the venture of Video Game development.

How Nintendo shaped multiple generations

This company has influenced the emotions, thinking, and behavior of many generations. Ask anyone in your family, old or young, to name a video game character, and they'll most likely say Super Mario. Although video games existed before Nintendo's first home console, this company has shaped what it means to sit down and play video games either alone or with family, influencing many generations from the 1980s all the way to the 2020s. Most individuals of the older generation won't even reference Video game consoles by their actual name and will refer to all consoles as "A Nintendo." Creations like the GameBoy and the Wii were cultural phenomena of their time, and the communities of the individuals who followed this company will no doubt attribute their growth and development to the time they've spent and the friends they've made playing Nintendo's products.

The effectiveness of the Nintendo Wii in promoting physical literacy in children.

A study was conducted over 6 weeks to determine whether or not improvements in physical literacy could be determined by monitoring the playtime of a group of boys and girls using the Nintendo Wii. Although it was determined that actual outside playtime was still the best method to increase the domains of physical literacy, the study found that Active video games, such as the ones on Nintendo Wii, did produce increases in motor function, knowledge, and understanding, and provided the children with a means to have a safer environment to refine some of those skills. The study also found that the children's attitudes toward physical activities improved and would lead them to become more active, as compared to playing video games the old fashioned way by just sitting and using a controller.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5968938/

The Nintendo Switch was released back in March 2017. You choose how you play. There are many games available for purchase and play. Plug into the dock, connect it to your TV, and play with the removable Joy-Con controllers for some intense couch co-op action. Alternatively, if you're going out and want to bring it along as a portable gaming console, you can just snap it out of the dock, and you're good to go. With the Switch, you can play locally with your friends (using either of the two Joy-Con controllers on its own), or log online and play against other players from around the world. You can even link up multiple Nintendo Switch consoles together for an even bigger local multiplayer session. Playing via ad-hoc multiplayer, you can play with your friends without either of you being on the same (or, in fact, any) network. Because the Switch wireless connects

Nintendo games influence socio-emotional development by teaching teamwork, resilience, and communication. Multiplayer games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros help build friendships and strengthen family bonds. However, too much competition or online bullying can negatively impact self-esteem. According to Erikson, games support children’s confidence during the Industry vs. Inferiority stage and help teens explore identity in the Identity vs. Role Confusion stage
