         <title>Athens - The First Democracy</title>

It reached its peak near the 4th century and by the 6th century the Athenians had overthrown monarchial rules.<br>2) The Greece of that time was a loose collection of many small, indpedent, and somewhat isolated city-states.&nbsp; <br>3) This government was operated under a direct democracy. Athenian had a assembly where the people would vote and laws could be passed withi majoriety vote.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) Rome was founded in 753 B.C. However, Monarchical rule was overthrown in 509 B.C.<br>2) There were two classes. the rich upper class was known as patricians. The common flok was known as plebeians. There government was run as a Senate of 300 members.<br>3) Originally a city-state ruled by a monarchy. After being overthrown Rome was replaced by a new system of popular government referred to as res publica a Republic.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) Born in response to the chaos and disorder of the fall of the Roman empire. Started around the 9th- 12th Century.<br>2) Powerful lords. They divided their land and power with agreed to protect lesser lords in exchange for their loyalty their military service and a share of the crops that they had produced.<br>3) This government is operated under lords. The lords had the power over the Serfs. What the lords said goes because they provided protection to the people.</div>]]></description>

There they found new opportunities such as trading and farming, but only the monarchs had the wealth and power to establish and control new colonies.<br>3) This government was run under the control of one nation over lands abroad. European settlers, laws, and religious beliefs spread around the world as rival nations competed for colonial possessions. Colonialism is run under an economic and political theory emphasizing money as the chief source of wealth known as Mercantilism.</div>]]></description>

Their exploration opened many new opportunities for trade by the monarchs and had the wealth and power to establish these new colonies.<br>2) Monarchs controlled overseas commerce by setting up companies to monopolize trade with the new religions. This new system allowed monarchs to tap new sources of wealth from distant gold and silver mines and from far-flung trade.<br>3)This was an economic political theory that emphasized that money was the chief source of wealth and it increased the absolute power of the Monarchy.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) Many Thinkers from the 1632 to 1704 time period that had an impact on early colonization.<br>2) My Enlightenment thinkers such as John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu. Montesquieu wrote the spirit of laws where he concluded that the separation of the executive, legislative and judicial powers was the best interest on people.<br>3)Under a democracy the two excesses to avoid are the spirit of inequality which eventually leads to aristocracy or monarchy. Today democratic and aristocratic states are not in their own nature when they are free. Political liberty is to be found only in moderate governments.</div>]]></description>
