Casu Martzu originates from Sardinia, Italy. It's a type of cheese made of sheep's milk, and it contains live maggots which cause the cheese's fermentation. It looks like your average wheel of cheese on the outside, but when it's opened you can see all of its holes and where the maggots are. It is also known as 'maggot cheese" and its production and sale is illegal in many regions of the world due to health concerns.
