Indigenous potters such as Stacey Davis started making ceramic vases. The emphasis for these artists soon became the surface, an extension of the earth on which and through which traditional stories could be told.

Some wonderful contemporary sculpture is still made in Australia nowadays. The Keringke style is very distinctive and known for it's colour and vibrancy.

Aboriginal dances are mostly based on "Legends of the Dreamtime" - or aspects of hunting. The dancers base their movements on the Emu, Brolga & Kangaroo.

Musicians portraying natural animal movement of creatures that move, jump, and dance in the majestic Australian outback.... The unique sound of the didgeridoo and clapsticks support ancient story telling at it's best.

In the Kakadu National Park, drawings and petroglyphs are more than 20,000 years old! Groups of Aboriginal people live in the park itself and still make drawings on boulders such as back in the days. The drawings consist of circles, images of fish, turtles and decorative lines engraved in the rocks.

Perhaps the didgeridoo is the oldest musical instrument on earth. Stories are circulating that the didgeridoo has been around for about 40,000 years. 2,000-year-old rock paintings depicting the instrument have been found. The Aborigines there claim that the hollow blowpipe was originally a means of communicating with ancestors.

Lewis Burns is an ambassador of the Aboriginal Tradition and carries the wisdom and knowledge of his elders around the world as he travels and shares his culture. Currently he plays every Tuesday at 11 am in the Cloudland Hall.

The exhibition shows contemporary Aboriginal art expressions, including the characteristic dotted and striped motifs. The main art forms are rock paintings, paintings on canvas, the body, bark paintings, rock carvings, wooden figures, traditional weapons and textiles. They often make drawings and paintings for their sacred places in nature, such as rocks and in caves.

We are so very proud to show the different indigenous art forms here! Come join us in our museum, located in the middle of a desert in Australia! A place, not only special to us, but also beloved by the Indigenous Australian people!

Santa Teresa, in Eastern Arrente is a small community located 80 km south-east of Alice Springs. The country surrounding it is rich in rock-art, artefacts and ceremonial sites.

In order to understand these artistic expressions, it is necessary to know something of the Aboriginal culture and of the important concept of 'the Dream'. The Dream is the blueprint for life. As a result, the people are connected not only with each other, but also with heaven and earth, flora and fauna and the landscape. The Dream therefore runs like a red thread through the various artistic expressions. Many paintings are a kind of maps and the perspective is often from above, so-called bird's eye view.

Colleen Young has deep ties to the local area and has a reputation for some of the most vibrant indigenous art Australia has to offer.

The Santa Teresa women certainly have an artistic style all their own. The women were instinctively drawn to work in bright colours. Keringke means ‘Kangaroo Tracks’.

Uluru or Ayers Rock is a huge rock formation located approximately in the center of Australia, in the Northern Territory. It is an area known as the Red Center because of the reddish brown color of the ground. This is due to the high iron content in the soil, which oxidizes through exposure to the air and gives the soil, displayed in the basket, a rusty, reddish-brown color.
