The air rose, and cooled. As the cooler air couldn't hold as much moisture as the warm air, the water condensed and formed a huge cloud. This also caused a low pressure system, winds began to rush in, spinning, and forming the eye of the cyclone. Cyclone Yasi grew to a category 5 cyclone, which is the highest category. Its wind speeds were up to 285km/h.
Cyclone Yasi passed over cooler land, which disrupted the forming process and caused it to dissipate. Cyclone Yasi resulted in an estimated $3.6 billion economic damage, the costliest cyclone in Australia to date. The damage to agriculture, mining, and local government infrastructure was estimated at over $2 billion. There was extensive damage to major towns and cities such as Cairns and Townsville, as many households took nasty damage.
Queensland supply over 80% of Australia's banana's. The impact of Yasi took out the trees, meaning the price of banana's rapidly increased from $3 - $5 a kilo right up to around $10 - $15 a kilo. Over $800 million dollars was spent on repairing damage to farming and agriculture after the cyclone.
Tourism visiting rates reduced, especially around areas near the Great Barrier reef. Hotels and resorts had been destroyed, meaning that the tourists had nowhere to stay, until rebuilding could commence.

Social:
There were positive and negative social outcomes as a result of Cyclone Yasi.
On the negative side, over twenty five mobile connection towers were lost as well as over 10 000 landlines, leaving some areas without communication for some time. Electricity poles were also damaged, meaning areas were without power. 
More positively, media were able to warn Queenslanders of Yasi, so evacuation processes went smoothly and it meant very few people were harmed by the cyclone. Some people were evacuated into shopping malls and stayed over night for safety.

Environmental:
Cyclone Yasi had a massive impact on the Great Barrier reef. It passed over areas near Cairns and Townsville, exposing 13% of the reef to Yasi. Marine specialists discovered that about 300km of the 2400km reef were destroyed. Damage varied in areas, with some spots suffering major destruction, and others not as much. Coral was ripped off and torn, branching coral especially. Larger pieces broke off, falling to the sea floor. Coral ageing to hundreds of years old were destroyed or tipped off their sides. The impact of Cyclone caused horrific damage to the Great Barrier reef.
A huge amount of crops were also ruined by Cyclone Yasi. Many banana plantations were demolished, along with sugar cane crops  It also destroyed some national parks, rainforests canopy leaves were stripped off, and a large amount of habitats holding endangered animals were wiped out. The Government had a positive response in the assisting of clean up after Cyclone Yasi. They set up at least nine evacuation centres, which were able to withstand category 5 cyclones for future purposes. They also helped with communication between other areas. They helped with flood recovery programs, farming revivals (particularly banana and sugar cane). Overall the Government contributed about $457 million to the cleanup and recovery of communities.

Organisation:
Many organisations contributed to the clean up and evacuation process of Cyclone Yasi. They helped things to move quicker and more smoothly, as well as prevention of all but one casualty.
