Do you think we look alike? I never got to meet her because sadly, she died before I was born. I loved my "Papa" (Grandpa) Bill (her husband). I know my Grandma was very special to my dad, which makes her special to me. My dad tells me that Anne didn't cook a lot. My Papa did the cooking in their house. This reminds my dad of my house because I cook as little as possible! My parents gave my sisters and I middle names after family members who had passed away. But, my parents decided to name me Joey after family members on both my mother’s and my father’s side. At first, Joseph was going to be my middle name. I love my name and it is important to me because it reminds me of my family.

Vanessa is from Tia Vanessa.  She was a big help to my dads when they were going to have me .

My name helps me be connected to my family.  The Merchant side of me tells me to work hard and do my best.  The Artiga side tells me to be kind and respectful.  Together my names tell me to work hard, don’t give up, do my best and be respectful.

Artiga is my Papi’s side of the family and Merchant is my daddy’s side.  

My name says something about my reputation.  For example, my dads always tell me that Artiga-Merchants are respectful, kind, and considerate. I want to live this way.

My first name wasn’t going to be Nathan. My dad liked the name Caleb, but one week before I was born my mom decided to change my name to Nathan. They liked the name and liked that it went with my sister’s name, Natalie.

My middle name is special to me because I am named after my great-grandpa, James. He was my mom’s Papa and one of her favorite people. My mom says I remind her of him because we both like the Lakers and the Dodgers and we have the same personality.  My great-grandpa died one month after I was born and I didn’t get to meet him because he was in the hospital.
