Target Learners: Further education students studying a level 5 communications award in whitehall college

Learning Design Approach: ABC learning design

Timing: 60-90 minutes

Session Learning outcomes:

''Use appropriate non-verbal and visual communication in personal- and work-related settings, to include one-to-one, in a group/team, and in formal and informal interaction''

At the end of the session, students will be able to:

1. Describe the different types of non-verbal communication

2. Interpret and use non-verbal learning cues effectively

3. Understand non-verbal cues in different contexts eg, cultures, situations, relationships

1. firstly, The lecturer will briefly speak about nonverbal communication and ask the class to take thirty seconds to themselves to think if anyone knows anything about it

2. The students will then use the padlet which is shared with them on google classroom and is on the screen to post what they know and ask questions, the lecturer will go through these answers and talk about them with the class

3. The lecturer will play a short video that shows students what non verbal communication skills look like and briefly explains what it is, which is posted on their google classroom

Timing: 15 minutes

Recourses: padlet, youtube

1. the students will open the quiz that is posted on the google classroom and complete the quiz that consists of images and videos of settings where the different types of non verbal communication is used

2. the students will have to either select or come up with their own answer to the question

3. students will submit their responses and the lecturer will use this data to improve their teaching practice

Timing: 10 minuites

Resources: qoogle forms, google classroom

• the students will have access to these slides on their google classroom

• the lecturer will explain the premade slides to the students, the students will have a padlet where they can post any questions that they have

• students will be asked to take notes as assistance for the quiz later in the lesson

• lecturer will answer any questions that were posted

Timing: 20 minutes

1. Get students to collaboratively work in groups of 4 on a padlet

2. Show students the video example above and ask them what types of non verbal communication they can point out

3. They will do a webquest to find three video clip examples from any movie or tv series of their choice that they think show good examples of non verbal communication

4. The students will them post their clips onto the shared padlet that is posted on their google classroom

• students will be asked to write 300 words on google docs describing what non verbal communication is and submit it for correction through google classroom
