However I feel like while in the act of trying to help, they were indeed enabling and feeding into his addiction. For example, Ryan's grandpa seemed to love him yet he fed his addiction by giving him money everyday, money which he knew would be spent on alcohol.
-Nick B

The hardest thing about having an addict within your family or close to you is that when they are going through withdrawals they blame you and not very many people can deal with the person they once loved turn into something that isn't them.

I understand withdrawal is bad but if they took him to a 30 day how come they couldn't take to a 90 day sooner? His grandpa did not think of the consequence of what will happen to him. If knew then he just ignored what will happen to him because he loves Ryan too much. Always giving him so much vodka is so bad and it wastes so much money. I thought only his mother and especially his girlfriend are the most supportive of him to go to a rehab. I believe that's what drove or
gave the idea that he should take a 90 day rehab.

I believe that Ryan's family were doing both as in they were helping but at the same time enabling him. At the same time they didn't want to loose him but then again he would have withdrawal. It's so easy for us to judge a situation just by looking at it or the person but really until your in their shoes it's easier to relate. I've lost a friend from an drug addiction and I know I did everything I could but I just had to accept that they didn't want my help all I could do was be there for them and make every moment count.

I think Ryan's family is doing their best to try and help Ryan out in many ways. Ryan's grandpa bought him alcohol at one point because he knows that Ryan can actually die without having a taste of it. If Ryan has more alcohol in his body then he'll keep craving for it, but he claims that when he does have a little bit of it he feels more alive. It is true that when one is addicted to drugs or alcohol, it affects the whole family. Drugs and alcohol is not a disease, but a poison and it depends on the person how and when he/she decides to stop. He/She know what he/she actually need in life than being selfish and going for only what he/she want that's not necessary from the start.
-Lisa Vang

Ryan's grandpa was getting yelled at by Ryan's ex-girlfriend and mom because they thought that he was trying to kill Ryan, but he wasn't. He knew what the result would be if he didn't have any. Ryan's brother thought that by not giving him any will help him out but really it was just making him worst also. I think that if Ryan took very little bits of alcohol everyday, he would have been fine. Everyone in the family was trying to help him. They encouraged him that they would always be there with him and that he wasn't alone.
-Chyna Vang

Ryan's family was trying to help him to get better. Although everyone was trying to help him get better they did not really understand that by not giving him alcohol they were actually hurting him more. In the end when Ryan was in rehab the one thing that had killed him was the very thing he was trying to stop doing.

I think that the family was a lot more educated in the situation than the film let on, because they were very good at controlling the amount of substance they gave him. As shown, going sober ultimately killed Ryan, and his family knew that was a possibility. They thought that by sending him to a facility, he could get the help that he needs and were trying to help. However, the addiction had manifested too far to be treated.
