NASA's use of robots has revolutionized space exploration. They use their robots for a multitude of reasons. They use robots to fix and protect their other inventions, like satellites. These robots include the DART and the Robot arm that was used by NASA. There are also other robots that are used instead of humans in order to make the exploration safer. This includes the Valkyrie and the Mars Rovers (Curiosity, Spirit and Opportunity). Some benefits of robots include making data more accurate and reliable and making space exploration safer for humans. These robots are expendable and they accurately do what they are programmed to do. The Mars Rovers have accurately sampled data from Mars' surface and sent it back to us. Robotic Astronauts will enable NASA to send them to space without risking the lives of humans. However, there are challenges that come with using robots. Most of the issues is that robots can malfunction and they may be destroyed in space. Robots don't have key characteristics that humans have, like intuition, and they can only do what is programmed. Also, if they are destroyed, then NASA won't be able to reuse parts for later ideas/projects. Our opinion is that robots being used revolutionizes the space experience and gives us an effective way to explore space. Without robots, exploring space will be to risky to do otherwise and is less likely to prove as effective. This is why we believe that using robots for exploration is ideal.
