Because deaf-blindness significantly impacts a child or youth's ability to access information, communicate, and interact with other people, it has profound implications for educational services. Each state has a federally-funded deaf-blind project that provides information and assistance.

    Teaching strategies:
    • Individuals who are deaf-blind will often need touch.
    • Exploring objects should be done in a "non-directive" way, allowing the individual who is deaf-blind to have control.
    • The individual may have very slow response times. Therefore, the teacher should allow time for the student to respond.

Knowing to remain in a group that is comfortable for the person such as possibly a smaller group or going to places they are comfortable with. Small group settings especially in school is especially beneficial.
