1. (What do I expect out of this class?) I think by December, I will have a better understanding of how govt. works and why it came to be the way it is. I think this class will help me make an informed choice in the 2016 election.

2. (election) I can vote this year, and barring another candidate joining the race, I will be voting for Clinton. I don't agree with everything she says or might have done in the past, but I believe that we could survive for four years under her leadership. I'm not as sure of that if Trump were elected.

I do not support a constitutional amendment that would make flag burning illegal. While many people may not agree with it, it is a form of free speech. Making such an amendment would create more problems than it would solve. If a person spent their own money on a flag, isn't it theirs? They own it, so theoretically they can do whatever they want with it. It would just bring up too many other issues to make it worth Congress' time.

Pt. 1
I really liked how they filmed the scenes when Congress was in session. The camera work was really well done, and they showed aspects that I didn't realize were a thing when laws were made. I didn't previously know that they had page boys or how exactly a bill could be presented. I also enjoyed seeing Mr. Smith when he filibustered. They really conveyed how exhausting it could be to stand and talk for twenty four hours straight. Seeing his office and how certain politicians could influence the newer or weaker senators. Another interesting thing was how his relationship with the Boy Rangers changed over the movie.

Pt. 2
I believe Mr. Smith is or would be a Republican. We don't get a chance to explore his opinions on policy much, just that he wants to start his Boys' Camp. However, we know he is from a Western Plains or Rocky Mountain state, and is most likely from a rural area. Because of these factors, we can safely assume he is more conservative. However, I don't think he took this belief system with him very far. I have a feeling that his political career will be fairly short as eventually abandons the political turmoil of Washington for his peaceful camp by the river.

Pt. 3 http://rodneydavis.house.gov/
Jefferson Smith resembles Rodney Davis. Both are Republicans who grew up in small towns and stayed close to that town until they got elected. Davis is a fairly moderate Republican who has been known to change his stance on issues such as gun control and legalizing medical marijuana. Smith advocated for a boys’ camp in his hometown to help protect the youth and to ensure a better future. Davis has shown support for local Boy and Girl Scout troops and has an office in Taylorville. He also returns every year for the Memorial Day services at the town’s main cemetery. Both Davis and Smith are small town politicians who remember where they are from.
