REFLECTION: CLINIC

Ms. Cadayona told us about everything we could learn from the CIIT clinic. During the online class, she informed us about the clinical guidelines, the programs and she even familiarized us with the medical team. Her speech began with a quote 'A healthy student is an effective learner'. She believes that students can focus more if they are in good condition. That time, I agreed with what she said. A student must have a healthy mind and body for them to learn. However, students are now suffering not just in terms of physical health, but also with mental health due online learning. I know this thing will not be covered by the school but, what if one student can't handle the stress anymore?

I think that medical attention should not only focus on the physical health of every learner, but also on what they feel emotionally and mentally. The student must stretch themselves more to survive in this situation. She also mentioned the current status of our country regarding COVID-19, which really surprised me. I think it's good that she gave importance and attention to precautions we can do to stay safe. Another good thing that she did was she used the time to spread awareness of what is happening in our country. This is really beneficial to me and to other students who are suffering from distance learning. The discussion itself proved that there is a way to provide the medical attention that the students need especially with the on-going pandemic. I believe that many students will benefit from the said action and I think it will be more effective if they will also provide the medical resources like kit, and medicines to students. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of the following protocols, giving information like this expanded my knowledge on providing medical attention during this situation. It is true that experience matters because experience helps in confirming what you have learned in a lecture. In this way, it confirmed my assumption and expectation before attending the meeting. After the discussion, I felt privileged and lucky to have knowledge regarding these phenomena.

Lastly, the whole experience helped me understand why it is still important to provide medical attention even if you’re at home. Overall her speech was about the information that we need and pieces of advice on how to reach out with the CIIT medical in case of health emergencies. I realized how simple factors will affect anyone's health. Thus, the next step I would do is to not only absorb the information I have learned but also apply it in real life situations. Because for me, a little action might encourage other people to do the same.

REFLECTION: LIBRARY

The whole context of online learning is essential especially to us, students. The institution has made different alternative teaching methods. The main goal of the institution is to still nourish one's mind, even we are in the midst of this pandemic. However, there were various ways on providing alternative education to students, including modular learning, learning through televisions, and radio and the most common one is online learning. Last Thursday, the online library was tackled. The speakers provided tips on how to reach them. They also introduced what kind of online library experience can we get from CIIT.

For the past years of my library experience, I only went to the library when I needed something to research. I've never been experienced library online aside from the journals and articles I got to support my thesis. That's why I am a bit curious on how they will do it. They made me realized that even though I'm not in school, it is easy for me to find sources I need, just like google, yahoo, ask, etc. The CIIT online library is included there. I am actually agreeing to the idea of CIIT for having an online library, aside from the fact that I can borrow a book from it, I can also find an interesting manga or fantasy book for me to jive my hobby. I'm totally amazed at how strategic they are on providing the tools we need. Although before when I was in my senior year from a different school, we also have an online library, what difference is we can only use the site for reservation of the book before we get it in the library itself. Despite the differences between the two, they both provide a good and convenient way of learning. I discovered that as I continued to expose to a different environment, the more things I discovered in any possibilities.

After hearing the information I got from them, it sinks in me, that everyone has their way of learning and there is a possibility that I will learn from a specific method that others can't. One's way of learning cannot be determined by simply providing a way, but a trial and error. A student must find his/her own comfortable way of learning. I learned that online learning explores the different way of teaching and focus more on the development of the study rather than the student's learning process.

REFLECTION: CANVAS

During this pandemic, students are required to use internet platforms such as google classroom, email, google meet, etc., so that they will continue to manage to learn even if at home. This way of learning not only taught us to be resourceful but to be updated also. At this point, we can say that these online platforms can one way of giving students another way to learn.

The speaker in last week's meeting explained how canvas works. Canvas is an online platform in which student can learn just like what are doing in the classroom. This thing is quite challenging for me because I have never been used canvas since then. When I was senior high school, we only used google classroom to submit paperwork and it's different from the canvas. I think the canvas is more complicated than the google classroom itself. There are many features on canvas that google classroom doesn't have and it makes me a bit confused. But really what comes in my mind was the idea of stress due to this way of learning. It doesn't make sense at all if a student is pressured and handling stress because of too much requirement they need to submit. What matters is, the kind of life they might experience if they will continue to do the unhealthy life of online classes. I know this will help, but this thing can also ruin someone's way of thinking. I know how bad this situation is and I am also aware that everybody is struggling with their workloads. But if we think deeper and try to see how these online platforms are affecting us, we could see the stress we are experiencing. I believe that this kind of platform has still a benefit and purpose. It might not be the best solution to support our learning needs, but it can help. There's a lot easier for things if we could understand what it is for.

On the other hand, the idea of having a canvas is good especially because it is more improved than other platforms. Giving access to this kind of platform gave students the privilege to explore and to have the right information they need. I realized that everything has a reason. They still put the best and more convenient way of learning they have to help their students. I learned that there is a way on handling our stress and anxiety, but there's no way to not keep on learning. After all, we still need to continue life and what I could do is to trust the process just like everybody said.

REFLECTION: IT

Technology is essential when it comes to living. Our lives, especially in this generation, are exposed to different gadgets such as a computer, tablet, smartwatches, and the most common smartphones. Most of the time we used technology for our leisure time like playing video games, streaming to online videos, and finding the information we need. Through this, our lives will be more easier and convenient, for example: instead of going to the library to search, you can use technology to search for the information you need with just one click; instead of going outside to play, you can play games through your smartphones. This only means that technology is connected to each in everyone.

After the discussion brought by the CIIT IT speaker, I found it very convenient aside from the fact that he guides us through the use of online as well as the problems, they will also provide the software we need to a specific subject like adobe cloud, AutoCAD, etc. I felt relieved because I don't need to find any source anymore on where I can get the software I needed. After all, they already providing it. I think they did a great job by doing that because not all students like me have an access to it and I don't think it is necessary especially life is more difficult these days. Upon observing the idea, I discovered that my blockmates are already exposed to these kinds of software when there were in senior high school. And it challenges me to do the same. Moreover, the speaker also clarifies some misconceptions regarding the idea of IT. He told us not to directly email them when it comes to canvas issues, the requirements, and etc, which was the common mistakes students are doing during these few past weeks. He also discussed the borrowing of computer sets and the pen tab from school. They are allowing students to borrow for their online classes including the software that already on it which really means a lot to me. This is going to be beneficial to a student like me who doesn't have enough materials at home needs this kind of idea.

To conclude, my experience in this discussion brought me an awareness and the idea of who to contact regarding my concerns. It made me realized how important common sense and awareness together. It is okay at some point in your life to be wronged and confused, as long as you will find a way on how to get rid of it. I believe that my curiosity and awareness will lead me to the path I need to go through.

REFLECTION: REGISTRAR

My experienced in the school registrar has always been a hassle since there are more things you need to do in order for you to comply with all the requirements you need to submit. An issue with the registrar is the most common issue that students are facing. Most of the time, students are failed to submit their requirements for some reason. It is an ongoing issue that student-registrar has, especially in virtual classes. But as a student, I do understand the concerns regarding requirements especially that I am a transferee.

She starts introducing her discussion by showing the edusuite page which the CIIT student's learner info. According to her, we can see our schedules and grades in our edusuite site. Also, we can see our previous payment concerning tuition fees on that site. Just like an ordinary student website, all the subjects and the information about yourself is in there. There are many concerns raised during the discussion but what caught my attention was the question of my block mate referring to the requirements that she needs to comply but, sadly she didn't know how to get those because her previous school is currently shutdown. I think the reason why I'm focused on that particular question is that I am in the same situation as her. By that time, I realized how difficult to comply with requirements during this pandemic, and I hate it a lot. Students like us need some time to get those requirements and because of some reason, we couldn't get it and passed on the said deadline. I didn't say to not submit the said requirements but we just need some consideration and time. Several students in any institution/university didn't make it this school year due to some factors and that's because they are also struggling. I know that we are responsible for this but, there's no way for us to make it quick. I understand the side of the school admission and registrar and I hope they will do the same. Thus, the only move that I need to do is to focus on those requirements and wait for the release.

I discovered that students are struggling with online and that's okay because we are adjusting to the new normal. There's nothing wrong with the school nor the students because we are all affected. Upon writing this reflection, I learned to appreciate things and be responsible for everything. I realized that communication is really important especially that there's a distance between each in everyone. I hope for the best and I would do my responsibility not only as a student but as a person.

REFLECTION: PRESIDENT

A report card, that's how the meeting with the president started. I remember the moment he said, " We have always been given a report card". He, the president of the CIIT put himself to each student's view. That's what I realized how big a responsibility being president was. Just like what is written on the student's report card, his card also tells if he's doing a good job or not and by enumerating numbers on it. Placement rating, faculty rating, student services, retention, and being the first choice are included on the said numbers to his report card. These serve as his guidelines to be able to determine and sustain his position as a president. The vision encouraged him to do his best for the sake of the whole school despite the challenges that the school is facing. At the end of the day, his job not only ends with him being a president but to manage and help each student in school.

Begin with the end in mind according to him is a way of approaching life with certain specificity and I totally agree with him. He wanted to take me the same approach in life by imagining how's my life will be for the past years, now and after graduation. That time, I realized that my daydreaming would also be significant after all. Daydreaming what I want to be and what I want in life is one way of realizing what I need to master. I must know where I need to go through and how to plan out everything. I think I want to spend my 4 years of college by finding my purpose. He also right when he said that we might be still very young and no clue. But I think it's just a misunderstanding because we as a student have different approaches and strategies on facing life. In short, CIIT- begin with the end in mind means going back to our purpose. In connection to that, he emphasizes soft skills which really important. I know most of the students including me are underestimating these soft skills but based on the survey, soft skills are more important than our technical skills. We must focus on soft skills because in the first place we don't need to be the best in technical skills. What important is the attitude that we are showing to them. It is true that in the field, we need to work closely with other people. Even if you don't like each other, you have to learn how to deal with them because if you yourself can't handle them, what more to your client? We must value teamwork over and above anything else. I discovered to learn to balance my creativity with the needs of the clients because not all the time I'm the boss. Next is to always do my best in any work that I need to submit. Sometimes I just think of the deadline, not the quality of my works anymore and that's the problem with me, that's my weakness. Since then I've never realized how this simple thing would change me as a person. Every little thing when you combined will give you more satisfaction in everything that you'll do. That's why the CIIT wants us to focus on the 4C's of soft skills. On the other hand, there are also 4 things to focus on, aside from the 4C's that they gave. First, is being too emotional. The president said that we must work with our emotions all the time. Our emotions give colors to everything we do, it will be our befriend but it can also be our worst enemy if ever. Second is being too shy and modest, it's normal to be shy and modest but we also need to work with these things because being too modest and shy can also degrade our work. Asking about a career is also important because as a person, we can't do life without anyone besides us, just like what they say " no man is an island". And lastly, demand more from yourself if you want the best in life meaning if you want the best in your life, give the best you can do for it to happen.

The discussion helps me understand that I need to build my confidence and there's no need to be shy and modest. They made me realized that when you do your best work, owned it. If there's just one piece of advice that I learned from him, it was to reflect within yourself. Take that time to think deeper about your goals in life. Their goal is to make sure that every college graduate is employed after graduation and what I can do is to strive harder for my career to be able to help myself. And I know I can do that because the CIIT will be on my side.

REFLECTION: THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously (Wikipedia). Most of the time, habits are going to be our guide to accomplish specific things or tasks, just for example: in studying, what are the things we need to do in order to pass the test?; what actions do we need to make for it to be effective? Let's say that there are habits that are good, and there's not. What we need to do is to identify the bad and change it to be a positive and effective one.

In the first part of the video, the author brought a new mindset saying that " In any situation, you can choose to be proactive or reactive. Proactive means increasing the circle of influence, considering the things you can control and you can't directly control and how do you react to it-- reactive. And it is true that there are things in this world that we cannot control. A good example is when we are hating the weather, even if we don't like the weather that we are experiencing still, we can't do anything about it. For that reason, we complain a lot because we cannot make a move for it to change. We become reactive people because we let the environment control us and we are the people reacting to stimuli. That's why the first habit which is to be proactive is good advice from the author. Yes, we can't do anything about it but by focusing on the things that we can still control, we can bring more power into our lives and can widen our influence. In short, reactive persons are like to complain a lot instead of actually going out and changing their actions while proactive understand that even if they're complaining, it just fine because complaining about it won't change anything. Another thing that I learned from the video is to put first things first. Imagine all this time, I've been procrastinating since high school because I know that I still have more time to do a specific task but what I did was to do the task on the date where the deadline is near. I realized that it was a bad habit; instead of playing online games and scrolling through the internet, I must do my responsibility first as a student. I know that the 7 habits from Stephen Covey are just for our self-improvement. But what more important is to know yourself better to be able to see what you might need to improve. Again, these are just guides to be effective people, it depends on how you will improve yourself.

"Everything is created twice"; one in the mind and one in the physical world, the author said. Our problem is we never manifested it into tangible things because we tell ourselves that we can't do it. That's when I realized that it makes us always go back to the first habit itself saying; stop thinking about you can't control and believe in what you can do.

REFLECTION: THE 21ST CENTURY SKILLS

Before reading the article that is given to me, the only thing that pops up in my head is the question " Why do we need those 21st-century skills?". I am definitely curious about why we still need to come up with those skills, instead of developing our own. And It gives me an answer that " they are essential in the age of the internet". These skills are a student must have to be able to fit in and to understand the modern market. These skills help students to become more competitive in dealing with the market today. And in order for us to be good, we need to be familiarized and see how these skills could affect us in the future.

The 12 skills are divided into 3 categories; the learning skills, literacy skills, and life skills. Learning skills that refer to the 4C's teaches students about the mental processes required to adapt and improve upon a modern work environment. I know I am familiar with these already because of the past discussion that I have with the president, but again these are communication that will express our ideas and communicate properly; the critical thinking that is not connected in math instead, on how we make the better decision making; A collaboration that's work with other people, and Lastly the creativity which is not always out of the box, but on how you make it your own way. Being familiar and focus on it not only mean that you're already good because 4C's are only the beginning. 21st-century skills also require to understand the information that’s around them which leads to the connection to another next category, the literacy skills. Literacy skills include information, media, and technology which also important for me. It is one way to help in finding the truth in the enlarging community of the internet. By this, we know how to determine and separate fact from the fiction. Just like when we are doing our thesis/researches, we need several sources that will provide information that supports our idea regarding the context. Without it, we think that everything that is on the internet that looks credible becomes credible. ( Educational System Inc, 2020). This only means that at this stage, we can strengthen our knowledge and not to easily rely on the information that we gathered. I found it very necessary because through this, we can learn how to equally determined the most credible one especially that fake news is spreading throughout different platforms. After all, if we don’t understand how the technology works, it might be a disadvantage to us. The next category is life skills which we always been using even before. These are the skills we tend to improve and most of the time, these skills only matter to us. Skills such as flexibility, leadership, initiative, productivity, and social skills are examples of them. I know that the industry is capable of changing that's why need the skills to be able to meet the standards of it. The most important is to continue to learn even if how many centuries will be passed.

I learned that 21st-century skills are always been important even if we don't ask for it, they might even guide our future. As a result, students can adapt to the world more effectively ( Educational System Inc, 2020 ). They can play an important role in its evolution and It makes me understand the demand of today's market. Moreover, I would start to teach myself improving the skills I have including the 21st-century skills for me to be ready in my future workplace.

REFLECTION: STUDENT FORMATION OFFICER

We know that in school, a student's behavior must be observed. That's why they included subjects that will teach students to be a good person; a responsible student in particular. We have the 'GMRC' in elementary, means Good Manners and Right Conduct, the values education in high school, and personal development in senior. All of these subjects make sure that we are able to do what is right and helps us to be a developed person.

The first thing we must consider when we talk about rights and obligations is the student handbook. I know that rights are very important to each one of us that's why it's also important to explore and read the student handbook. Reading and familiarizing it will guide us to ensure that we learn from our negative experiences and grow from the corrective actions prescribed. But it's not going to end with just a right, we need to do our responsibilities. Just like students, we need to study; comply with things right not just for the sake of compliance but because it is necessary. Moreover, the student formation office is responsible for promoting student character formation, ensuring and maintaining proper decorum. And throughout the discussion, I discovered that SFO also checked each student together with the guidance counselor including their behavior outside the school. For me, it's a good thing that they will make time for monitoring their students, aside from the fact that they will able to determine the current state of the student, they can also provide and guide it to be a good one. Just like our mother, teachers, and friends, they are willing to listen to our problems. That's why before I make a move on something, I always think first. Just like the quotation said, " Think before you click". I believe that we need to use our critical thinking for every action that we made and that was the student formation officer wants me to realize. He also said that success will start in simple discipline and we must remove the mindset that when we hear the word 'discipline' automatically, there's a punishment. Yes, he may be right because as we grew up, discipline and punishment act together, our parents discipline us by punishments itself. But the real meaning of discipline doesn't involve punishment at all, but the instructions and training because it is a learning process. Therefore, discipline is not rules, regulations, and punishments, it is our training ground to be a better person.

In the mid part of the discussion, he used fingers to represents teamwork. According to him, our fingers won't be able to call hands if they're not together. And I totally agree with that. We must see our fingers as a discipline also because it is not something others do to you, it is something you do to yourself. In addition, they don't have the right to discipline us, the only person who can discipline us is ourselves.

When we talk about guidance especially in school, the first thing that pops up in our head is the principal office. But in reality, it's not about the principal itself, it's about the behavior you make inside the school.

The speaker emphasizes the difference between introvert and extrovert. From what I remembered, before he explains those to us, he provided an activity about an employee in the office. That moment, he let us think about what the next move might be possible and connect it to our personality. I realized that introversion and extroversion are not always what we think it is. Introversion is not always the anti-social way we called, but it is more about personal things. Introverts can also socialize with others if they want. In short, these two are based on the behavior we chose. Moreover, last week's discussion is all about personality. The speaker wants us to determine what kind of personality we have in our own way of thinking. I learned to be more observant of things rather than seeing them in their own way. "True power lies in understanding yourself, accepting yourself, and having confidence in yourself" a quotation from the discussion that tells to love yourself. One way to bring the power in you is to know yourself better and to accept what's within you for you to overcome the weakness inside. Because I believed that everyone matters, it can be me, you, or other people.

To conclude, the guidance office guides us to be a better student of CIIT together with the student formation officer. I learned to know more deeper about yourself and be responsible for what your personality tells.
