The coloring book will have a unique form: a diary that consists of various themes. Through this diary, they are hoping to share stories and to give those in need an opportunity to draw some images of their own. The pages will be composed of drawings, as well as some short descriptions (anecdotes) of your own. There will be various sections, each having different themes such as family and gratefulness.

The Peer Tutor program aims to match students who need a little extra help, with volunteer students who have some help to give! Because of current health restrictions, sessions can happen face-to-face if you are in the same cohort or boarding house (masked, of course). Located in Franklin Green (behind the old Wellburns at Cook & Mason) is a small, native plant garden. This garden was established in 2017 and is added to a bit more each year.

This garden is cared for by volunteers who love native plants, community, and nature. If you would like to learn more about native plants, teach others about native plants, or spend some time in a community garden getting to know your neighbours, fill out an application with the North Park Neighbourhood Association!

They are looking for volunteers to help repair and maintain tools to keep them in good working condition. With an inventory of over 1,400 tools and many new donations, they need volunteers who can help identify issues with tools in our inventory and can help repair tools as needed.

Orientation and training will be provided by the Board of Directors.

Timing is flexible - they are open 6 - 8pm Tuesdays and Thursdays,  and 10 - 12 noon on Saturdays, but you can drop by anytime to help with tool maintenance.

Here is a list of their opportunities:

Forage fish are small schooling fish, such as Pacific sand lance, surf smelt, Pacific herring and anchovies. These species are critical components of the ocean food web, feeding on phytoplankton and zooplankton and transferring this energy to salmon, seabirds and marine mammals. While often abundant, forage fish spawning beaches are undergoing a coastal squeeze, experiencing the effects of shoreline development on land and climatic conditions from the sea. Forage fish beach spawning surveys are important for increasing our knowledge of Pacific sand lance and surf smelt spawning behaviour and their use of intertidal beaches for spawning.

Student committees then decide which issue area(s) they would like to financially support before researching local charities supporting work in those areas. To learn more about their operations, students meet with charity staff and conduct interviews. Once they have completed this extensive process, they decide as a group which charity to recommend for funding.
