Hanfu, a traditional Chinese garment, is not merely a fashion trend—it is a powerful symbol of cultural revival and identity for today’s youth. In recent years, many young Chinese, especially Gen Z, have embraced Hanfu not only for its aesthetic appeal but also to express pride in their cultural heritage. This revival is a response to the increasing cultural homogenization brought by globalization, as well as a subtle rejection of Western-centric beauty standards. For many wearers, Hanfu signifies a connection to ancient philosophies like Confucianism and Taoism, reflecting values that are still meaningful today. Moreover, this trend showcases how tradition can evolve with time: modern Hanfu often incorporates vibrant colors, streetwear elements, and gender-fluid designs, making it both fashionable and inclusive. Social media influencers and platforms like Douyin and Bilibili play a crucial role in amplifying this movement, turning personal expression into a nationwide cultural dialogue. Therefore, Hanfu represents more than style—it reflects a generation’s effort to reimagine identity and reclaim cultural dignity in a rapidly changing world.
