Upon entering this realm, Rydra encounters an elderly man that can still speak to an extent, wailing about his woes living in a world alone without being able to speak to another. He seems to be reaching his final days.

The old man tells Rydra of those beyond his home, whose impairments vary wildly, and thus causing jealousy and violence. Based on the man's musings of his frail life, Rydra herself muses about the hierarchy of communication, or lack thereof, between the humans of this world. Here, to be capable of language--spoken, written, both, or neither--is ability to survive mentally and physically.

Suddenly, in his final moments, the man speaks his final words to Rydra: "Do not let your words go to waste." At that, Rydra concludes that such a place as this is in shambles for not only its lack of communication for knowledge, but relinquishes communication to love, emotion, and passion. Funnily to her, to exist in this realm would require something the opposite of the computational analysis indicative of the now-broken language of Babel-17.

Suddenly in a world of bustling sound and text, she stumbles into his fancy abode, to which he immediately recognizes her fearful body language he has learned from his closest friend.

Voice hoarse, Rye is mesmerized by the constant noise of communication that is gibberish and unintelligible. To Dr. T'Mwarba, however, she is at peace with his voice that seems to be refined with years of practice, a concept unknown to her for years. She can conclude that such a place is beyond the plague that befell her world.

Dr. T'Mwarba is in awe with Rye's inability to read, yet close familiarization with concepts of high caliber; stories she tells of her academia long gone to her blocked off mind. Rye can only think about how living in a world of so many communicative modes could perhaps one day relieve her mind of the plague. Back home, there is nothing to return to.
