Why this book?

I read this book as a senior in high school and absolutely loved it. It really made me think about the importance of books in our society that is rapidly changing to online media, text, everything. As a future English teacher, I want to teach my students that even if they don't like reading, that it is important, and it is important for them to not be afraid of their own ideas. I don't want my students to feel like they have to be like everyone else to be accepted, and I think having them read, study, and talk about this book will open their eyes and minds to their own independent thinking.
