My book called Tell Me Three Things talks about a girl, Jessie, trying to live a new life she was forced into. It's been less than two years since Jessie's mom had died and her dad has already married a woman he met online, forced jessie to move from Chicago to LA with him, and enrolls Jessie in a preppy high school called Wood Valley High School.
Just when Jessie hated her new life and wanted to go straight back to chicago, someone (who they say is nobody) emailed her under the name SN and soon becomes her lifeline.

But I still haven't found the words to talk about my mom. The real her. To remember who she was in a way that doesnt make me keel over. I dont know how to do that yet. Sometimes i forget how to talk all together." (Page 38, Tell Me Three Things.)

My book shows grieving off as being easier then it really is. Not saying it didn't show the character in pain, but it forsure did not show the character in as much pain as most people would really go through. Not saying someone cant grieve as "nicely" as Jessie did, but its definitely not as easy as they showed.

Grief for me is something that I know I will deal with for the rest of my life. I lost my mom to alcoholism 2 years ago on March 18th. When you lose a parent you get reminded of it on a daily basis, people talking about there parents, pictures of peoples parents, people talking about their mom, and just daily things. Grieving over someone feels like a cramp, you can take medicine to help the pain but it will never take it away. Somedays are harder for me then others. Some Days I wake up wanting to live the day for my mom and make her proud, other days I wake up and just start crying immediately.

No days are easy, but some days are better.

Grieving is something everyone has to go through at some point and I think because of that people who could help tend to just brush it off. People like me, who go home and can't talk about it with someone, feel as though there is nothing to do about it but cry and rant about it to friends.

A way we could help grieving people is to learn how to treat them.
-Make sure you make it clear you want to help them and listen.
-Listen more than you talk.
-Chose your words wisely.
-Offer help, make it clear, make sure they know your there.
-Keep checking in with them.
