First, I miss playing tennis. Tennis is my favorite sport and I haven’t been able to play ever since the courts were closed because of the virus. I would play tennis with my father and sometimes with my friends which is the most fun. Ever since the courts were closed, I have had to find other ways to keep myself active like biking or swimming in the canal. Another thing I have started missing is my friends. Not being able to see them has made me realize how valuable they are. As mentioned before, I miss playing tennis with them. I miss going to their houses and going out to do fun activities like bowling. One of them even got a dog that I won’t be able to see for a long time! Most of all, I miss the beach. The beach is my favorite place to go because of all the available fun activities. Ever since the school closed I have been wondering if my camp would reopen. The instructor sent me a text message saying that he is going to try to start it early and even maybe do a sleep-away camp which is exciting. One of the things that I have seen that is giving me hope is that when I go for a bike ride, I have noticed that there are more and more people outside on walks, bike rides, or runs. I hope this is a sign that our situation is getting better. Another thing that is giving me hope is that places are starting to re-open. For example, the parks in my city have opened back up, which I am hoping is a sign that the virus is dying down. I have also heard that the beaches are starting to open back up, another thing that is making me think that it will all go back to normal soon. All these events give me hope that soon I will be able to go back to doing all of the things I loved to do before lockdown. Opened parks is a step towards me going back to playing tennis, as I usually play at one of my local parks. I learned about the coronavirus this way. Someone stood up in class, casually talked about this new, small virus that had arisen in China. I was sat there thinking that there was no possible way that is would ever even come in contact with America. Even Mrs. Porges stated that she doubted that it would come here. But now here I am, stuck in quarantine, bored, and taking online classes. I often think about how interesting it is that I learned about the virus this way and how recent it was. It scares me to think about how fast the virus spread around the world and locked people in their homes. Whenever I’m bored, I just look back at the time that I heard about a small virus that had arisen in Mrs. Porges’s civics class and what a way to learn about the virus that it was. Overall, I think that it is scary how fast this small virus caused a worldwide pandemic so quickly.
