Summary: This journal article discusses a longitudinal study that was conducted over the course of 10 years on teenagers until their early adulthood (14 to 24 years). It examines ego development and identity formation. I think this article would be helpful in our project because it provides an understanding of how identity develops and forms as well as its patterns among different people, which is essential in our comprehension of our target group.

I think this article will provide us with a better understanding of our target group, what they struggle with and in what aspects would our project help.

Deceased father

How old were you when your father passed away?
- I was 17

Has his death affected your relationship with your mom? or with other family members? If so, how?

- It didn’t really affect it because they were divorced, but directly after his death everyone was depressed for a while so the atmosphere was different. Now, everything is back to normal. 

Did you feel like your role in the family changed? 

- I felt like I became “the man of the family” or something similar, that if anything happened, it would be my responsibility. 

How do you feel it affected your self-esteem, self-image, and identity?

- I don’t think it did.  

Do you feel it affected your romantic/platonic relationships?

- Yes. I think it gave me some issues about opening up or being vulnerable because I felt like I was inevitably going to get hurt.

Divorced parents

How old were you when your parents got divorced?
- 13

Has this divorce affected your relationship with your mom or dad? or with other family members? If so, how?

- I felt guilty, like it was my fault. So I overcompensated by trying to be a good daughter like getting high grades and stuff. But they were both still really good to me. 

Did you feel like your role in the family changed? 

- Not necessarily, no. 

How do you feel it affected your self-esteem, self-image, and identity?

- I started having bad ideas about who I was as a result of the guilt I felt, so I thought that I wasn’t good enough or so. 

Do you feel it affected your romantic/platonic relationships?

- I feel really insecure whenever something unstable happens but I don’t know if that’s an abnormal reaction.
