Although the performing arts is a very practical subject, I am interested in learning more about the anatomy and academic aspects such as the body and the way it works. Having support through this course to find auditions and become a successful performer will help boost my presence when entering the industry. To be a success you need self-confidence, the ability to push yourself out of your comfort zone, good time management and an awareness of how to take care of your body physically and mentally. Being organized is also needed to make sure the correct equipment and clothing each day is with you.

I would be suitable for this course as I am a hard-working individual and I want to push myself to be the best possible version of myself. This course will allow me to carry on with something I love at a higher and more professional level. I want to pursue a career in the industry and have been passionate about this for a while. I’ve trained in many styles of dance throughout the years taking IDTA examinations across the variety of styles. I also compete regularly in dance competitions where I have gained overalls, trophies and medals consistently. Recently I gained 3 golds and a silver in some populated categories. I use my own initiative and check my own technique and placements and take responsibility for stretching and improving my knowledge further.

In my current form of study, I am studying ballet, jazz, contemporary and commercial where I train weekly to build my skills as well as doing numerous shows and workshops throughout the year. I am resilient and will not give up easily with any task. This was particularly demonstrated during lockdown, where I continued to attend classes via zoom. Continuing to dance through this time was important to me.

I work a small job alongside dance that allows me to improve social skills and independence. I am currently working towards my level 3 IDTA qualifications as I would also love to be able to pass my knowledge and skills to others. As part of this training, I am expected to support children throughout the class, helping to ensure their safety and participation in the lesson. I take instruction from the teacher and act on what they have said promptly. I have created short combinations to teach to children of all ages in a range of genres of dance. I take pride in researching theory elements such as warmups, cooldowns, breathing techniques, anatomy of the body, definitions of steps movements, steps and positions. This highlights my commitment to develop my dance ability and training in all areas and share my knowledge with others.

For the future I hope to be able to continue to dance as a career. I strive to dance professionally and gain experience as a choreographer. Eventually I am also keen to share my personal stories and knowledge with other individuals. I aspire to dance on cruise ships and this would be my ultimate goal. I would also love the opportunity to perform and participate in events such as MOVE IT and CYD. All these experiences and opportunities will help to build my portfolio, ultimately supporting me to be the absolute best I can be.

After looking into many different university courses I have ultimately decided to stay on at Burton college and continue studying dance in level 4,5 and 6, the reason that I have decided to choose this pathway is because I feel like this decision will benefit me the most in the long run in terms of what I feel that I can get the most out of, after training at the college for the past 3 years and looking into more detail about the course I know that there are many opportunities to not only work with internal people but also external people who are very well known within the industry and this includes flexus Dance collective, Amy Dowden, The national forest adventure farm and many more, This was one of the things that first attracted me to the college as having the chance to work with industry proffesionals  has allowed me and will further allow me to undestand the environment of working in the proffesional industry.
