The specific behavior/habit that I’d like to target to enhance my well-being is spending more time relaxing. I keep myself very busy because I thrive off of healthy stress. But sometimes it catches up to me; I often feel rushed and I’m constantly on the go. I think both physically and mentally, I could benefit from relaxing more.

What was one success you experienced during the past week? I was able to spend 2 nights at home this week! That meets my goal of spending at least 1 week night per week at home.

What (if anything) got in the way of your plans? Something for work came up and I was unable to stay home a third night, as I planned. I had to go get video footage of a house for a commercial our company is creating. Although I was only gone for about an hour, it technically wasn't "spending the night at home."

This week I purchased a Garmin Forerunner 235 watch (like pictured here)! I'm currently training for a marathon, so that is why I purchased it; but it has so many other benefits I already love using. I can track my steps each day and track my sleep - both huge benefits. My new watch is helping me track the amount of sleep I get each night, and for the last week I've averaged 7-7.5 hours of sleep each night. This is great because my goal is 6.5 hours of sleep each night.

How did you feel during and after you performed your new behavior/habit? When I make the time to spend 15 minutes each day relaxing and shutting myself away from distractions, I feel really good. The 15 minutes act as a great mental break; I'm able to refocus my mind on the tasks left at hand for the day, and I'm able to gain a boost of energy.

If you could relive the past week (with the same circumstances that occurred), what would you do differently to better take care of yourself or fit in your new behavior/habit? If I could do anything differently from the past week, I'd definitely make more time to spend 15 minutes sitting down and relaxing. Like I mentioned above, it feels great when I do it; it's just tough to actually get around to doing it. Maybe I'll block time off on my work calendar each day for a 15 minute break.

It was the biggest challenge of my life, but something I'm so thankful I set out to accomplish!

Now that my intense training is over, I'm hoping to be able to get more sleep (no more 4:30am wake ups to get a run in before work), relax a bit more and eliminate some stress, and work in more of those 15 minute relaxation times!

Now that things have calmed down a bit with training for my marathon, my results of sleeping more, being home at night and taking 15 minutes a day to relax have increased and improved a lot! Over the last week alone, I've slept more than 7 hours each night. I've been home every night this week, and I've taken my 15 minutes to relax 3 days this week. I'm feeling confident, excited and inspired this week! I happy that my goals are finally being met, and I think it'll only improve more from here as it's getting colder and a lot of my other activities and involvements are ending/slowing down.

My week this week is SO BUSY! It's only Tuesday and I'm already so stressed and ready for the week to be over. I'm worried that all 3 of my well-being goals won't be achieved this week. I don't have a night free at home, I may not be able to get much sleep each night, and I may struggle to find 15 minutes each day to "clock out" and relax. I think it's important that I'm aware of the struggle though, right? If I am conscious that it'll be a challenge, I may be able to better fight off the things that get in the way of me reaching my goals. Fingers crossed that I survive this week! I'll update next week on how I achieved my goals (or if I didn't!).

I am writing this post as I sit on my bed, ready to read my chapter book for the third night in a row before I head to bed. Talk about relaxing! This past week I was lucky enough to have a 5 day weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday. While I fell under the weather for the majority of that time, it was nice to slow down and focus on relax and rehabbing my health. I was able to get more than 8 hours of sleep each night - often times much more (score!). And I was able to spend about four nights in a row at home by myself. I'd say I'm still struggling to fit in 15 minutes of quiet time each day, but having started a new book that I really like, I've found time to do that. So I'd say that kind of counts. We've only got a few more weeks left of this challenge and I'm hoping it turns into a lifestyle by the end of it. Here's to hoping!

As the semester is winding down, I'm feeling pretty good about my accomplishments with my goals. If anything, I'm very aware of the need to reach these goals, and not just because they're goals but to benefit my wellness. This week has been very busy at work and outside of work, and I've really had to prioritize my nights at home and getting good sleep. It hasn't been easy, but it's been worth it!
