At the beginning of the book Mick is a little 4 year old trying to get a way around his dads arms to score a touchdown. Then at the end he becomes a total Monster that takes steroids. "My earliest memory was when I was four years old, in the back yard with my dad. He bought me a purple and gold mini football." (Deuker 3) Mick is a little loving 4 year old then 10 years later, he ends up shooting himself because he took this steroid thing to the next level. "But he didn't stop. I aimed but I couldn't pull the trigger. In a flash I knew why I went upstairs for the gun. It had never been to shoot Drew. My anger went away. The fear went away. I put the revolver up to my temple, felt the coldness of the muzzle there took a deep breath, and pulled the trigger. (Decker 297). She is a minor character because she does not affect Mick that much in the story because she never goes to Mick’s games. But I think she impacts Mick in a bad way. Mick kind of feels like nobody loves him and nobody supports him. Mick gets a little support from his dad, but that is just one person. The reason why Mick shot himself, was because he used steroids, the reason why he did steroids was because his coach told him to get stronger if he wanted to play. Mick had no support from anyone to help him get through this or any advise from his dad who used to play football. “Mick, I love you and I want to be part of your life, but I can't go to your football games anymore. I just can't. Every Time you get tackled, i'm afraid you're going to get paralyzed or even killed.” (Deuker 19) This evidence shows that Micks mom loves her son, but she just can't go to his games.

One moment Mick was getting yelled from all of his coaches and they were really serious. Mick managed to stay calm and be within himself at that moment. That game he got his team in the playoffs for a chance to win a championship. Also, Mick didn't act weird when he was taking steroids. Usually people start acting weird when they take steroids but he did a good job not to. He did get addicted and he was warned that if you take them you would like the results and get addicted.

I watched the ball into my hands, tucked it away against my chest, and drifted down the line, looking for a crack. And there it was, a small opening between the guard and the tackle. I cut upfield, but right then a Foothill linebacker shed his blocker. It was number 50, the same guy who brought me down the year before. (Mick is looking for redemption, number 50 got Mick down at the one yard line) For a split second we were both frozen, both straining neither yielding. But this time it was his legs the gave way, this time I drove him back, and a second later I was churning forward, across the goal line and into the end zone. I raised arms high above my head, reaching the football toward the sky, the rain pouring on me like diamonds. (Deuker 290-291). This whole moment symbolises the moment that Mick has been wanting to do his whole football career, score the game winning touchdown. This moment also has a lot of description as well as some symbolism. Some description was shown when Mick and number 50 from Foothill, were just frozen because of how intense the moment was. This symbolises the whole season for Mick, the moment that he was training to do. In life, we do stupid things that can Impact us in good ways, but also in bad ways. What I mean by this is that Mick took steroids to make him play better, but there is some consequences to steroids. “Your duffel. What you got in there? Street clothes, tape and a water bottle. Yeah? So why bring it to the john? He motioned with his head toward the stall. My ears were burning, heart pounding, but somehow my voice kept clam. Unzip the bag. Until Coach Brower says “move it guys, your teammates are waiting for you!” (Deuker 282). The author used Suspence to help reveal the theme by Drew questioning Mick or being near Mick in an awkward way.
