Unique experience, Demi-pair in Australia by Hyunkyung Kwon

For the first 3 months in Australia I did a Demi-pair program. I think this program is quite unfamiliar to people but it's getting popular to someone who wants to go abroad as a working holiday. Actually I didn't know that as well the first time when I decided to go to Australia but my agency told me about this one. Demi-pair is literally half -pair. So a student who need a room for staying safely and comfortably get into an Aussie family's house and do some works for them like baby care, house chores and help serving dinner things like that. And the hose family feed you and give a room for free. But there is no monetary reward about the work you do in that house. So we can compared with Au-pair. Au-pair is also similar program but they get the pay for house chores, baby care and also the host family feed you and give a room for free. However Au-pair have to stay at home all they except for weekend to take care of baby, but demi-pair only work for 20 hours in a week. There is a pros and cons:)
In my case, I had to go ESL at the same time so stayed as a Demi-pair and that was a amazing experience for me. If I didn't do that program, I could understand Aussie people's life deeply even if I was in there for a year. Sometimes I wanted go out and do share with my new friends because normally I finished my ESL course at 3pm and had to go home until 4pm. So there was no time to go out with friends on weekdays. But in retrospect, that was worth it. So I'll strongly recommend this program to any students who want to go abroad:)
