I loved the way the author narrated the story but I do wish there was more of a plot. The main character was very relatable and described grief really well and didn’t simply “get over it.” It was also quite simple in that the main problems were just day-to-day events that could happen to anyone. In addition, it focused on not only the protagonist’s problems but also how her outbursts affect others. All in all, it’s a really good book if you’re just looking to pass time.

The suspense just kept building and building until the very end when the main character decides what she wants to do with the secret. The relationships that the main character has with the others also makes the protagonist’s decisions even more unexpected.

I loved the concept and world this book takes place; a world where private books are illegal and the Great Library (of Alexandria) is almost like another government, alongside the ones that we already know. Rachel Caine has done a superb job of creating a world for the readers to imagine and to be transported to. I would recommend this book to fantasy lovers, dystopian lovers looking for a twist and anyone with an appreciation for good world building!

While an interesting idea, this book wasn't my favourite. The plot becomes confusing as you move through the story. The writing style is also sometimes hard to follow. Almost all the characters were, for me, hard to take a liking to or bland. Overall, though the concept has potential, I wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone.
