As a Colombian in U.S.A I had found several type-token mismatches in Texas, due to the long centuries exchange of cultures between Mexico and U.S.A.

- Was this a difficulty in communicating concepts across different languages, or in the same language?

Mostly between languages, living in Texas, where the Mexican-Texan culture has been mixing for centuries. Now, regarding this difficulty in my primary language which is Spanish, in Colombia I also have found those mismatches due to the regional dialects (Antioquia, Bogota, Colombian coast, etc) but since I have been permeated by the culture for long time those issues are easily resolved through the context of every specific situation.

- How did you resolve this? What changed, and for whom?

Resolving is learning, adapting and embodying the new word into my vocabulary, of course it did change my point of view of languages, getting a better understanding of how we as humans adapt and use words and concepts, this also means I do better comprehend why we can think different, but it is not necessarily wrong, it is just different.

- How is the ‘type-token relationship’ useful in helping us to communicate with each other?

Is very useful because we can adapt our ideas or feelings into words and then communicate successfully to the target subject. This type-token relationship is the backbone of a culture, a society which has common ideas, and their development is based on those common, agreed relationships of words and reality.
