In the book Justyce has a lack of reactions but in this quote his class was talking about everyone (people of different races/skin color) were all equal and Justyce stayed quiet but when he tried to defend his opinion they told him to stay out of it.

in chapter 5 Justyce is going along with Manny's friends on wearing costumes, his is a "thug". On page 12 Justyce says "I guess I thought I didn't really need to concern myself with this type of thing because compared to him, I don't come across as "threatening," you know? I don't sag my pants or wear my clothes super big. I go to a good school, and have goals and vision and "a great head on my shoulders," as Mama likes to say."
Justyce also thought if he did what he was supposed to do and not be a basic stereotype he wouldn't get treated like one. He describes what his view on discrimination was and how he thought he could avoid it before the incident, on page 12

this shows that it has impacted him and it's still bothering him. he isn't used to this and being treated the way he was. he has to try and fight the urge to look at it again but it's taking a toll on him and on his mind a lot.
