Meeting With Director

I actually presented my information to my director, Terri at Mountain View Whisman School District. And I also work a summer program so I had a short interaction with that director Carmen.
Both were very interested in the information. Especially because in both we serve low income families. The only difference is that in the summer program there is more emphasis on the Spanish support.

I mentioned to both the importance of the family interview. We use to do it when we were under Head Start at MV. In STK the director does it and teachers can read the information. My goal is to have the teachers involved in the interview in both programs. There is a closeness and a trust that is established when the teacher and a parent are able to have that open of a discussion. I think even if its done when we meet ot go over ASQ scores.

I was ale to have Karla Oseguera Chavez take the Bella Dual Language Assessment Tool. She did very well in the English one even though she said she was nervous. The Spanish one (to my surprise) was a little harder. She did well with the receptive but the expressive I needed to repeat a couple of ties and give her thinking time for naming colors and shapes.

I realize how important it is to have the translated newsletters, class objectives and messages of the are. That way parents can practice the academic in their home language at home.

I found it interesting that students of color are more likely to to go the office as disciplinary action versus white students. The article brings up a good point. Who decides what is too loud. This is based on personal opinions and experiences.

Teachers sometimes hold biases on student achievement. Teachers wi;; hold different expectations of students based on their ethnic background.

I like that the article suggests that getting to know individuals regardless of( race, ethnicity, religion)can build new association and take away the preexisting biases.
