This contributed to conflict between both the indigenous people and Canadians because no one truly had an understanding of what was going on. Everything said was lost in some sort of bad translation, causing issues to arise. Both people also had different understanding so coming to an agreement was very difficult. The indigenous people believed that land was to be worshiped and the Europeans believed that it was to be bought and developed.

Indigenous people lacked knowledge about what they were talking about so this effects the outcome because they take the land and give money but they don’t fully get what they deserve... didn’t know how to word properly

The language barrier effected negotiations as many people didn't get to share there views and opinions causing confusion and a chance for the other groups and people to overtake them rightfully. I also believe that the negotiations caused many issues with friendship as well, as may people tried to overtake them because of their language not being the same.

The treaty negotiation process contibuted to conflict because there was not a clear idea of what was going on, europeans most likely used the language barrier to cheat (the interpreters would most likely have given only the barest details and rephrased the terms in a way that would make them seem better/the situation less dire to get what they wanted out of the negotiations).

The indigenous people did not get what they wanted in return. The Indigenous nations agreed to share some of their interests in their ancestral lands in return for various payments and promises. There wasn’t any communication between the british and indigenous making it hard to negotiate.

The language barrier led to land treaties being manipulative and unfair to First Nations People. Indigenous were taken advantage of because they couldn’t understand the language of those creating the treaties. This led to conflict because land was being wrongfully taken left and right.

It affected the outcome because they could not voice their opinions. Talking is the most basic way to communicate, and it has taken their voices and best way of communication away. They didn’t have any way to resist being treated unfairly and had to just go with what they were being told because they could not understand each other. The indigenous people did not want to talk overtop of the English speakers, but the english speakers did not have the same amount of respect for voice. This showed that the Indigenous had more respect, which resulted in them getting the tiny end of the spoon.

Indigenous peoples were never given a chance to speak or negotiate with the British about their own lands. There wasn’t any communication between the two groups. Knowing what they were doing, the British took advantage of the Indigenous and took away and restricted their lands.

The inability to communicate and understand one another caused the British to have the majority of the control and made the Indigenous vulnerable to agreements they did not consent to. This unfairness caused a rift between the Indigenous groups and Canada because they did not have a voice to speak up for themselves and a place to express their views on the matters being discussed.

This caused many conflicts between the indigenous and Canadians because both groups did not have any idea of what was happening. the government was to blame but Indigenous people thought all English speaking Canadians were to blame for their suffering. The indigenous people were out numbered which resulted in land loss and physical as well as emotional abuse of many innocent people. Indigenous people had no chance to speak their opinions which is what caused major conflicts with Canadians as their was miscommunication.

The treaty negotiation process contributed to the conflict between Indigenous groups and Canada by placing an unfair advantage on the British. The British made all the rules and regulations regarding land without asking for, or giving, the Indigenous people a say in how the land and it’s treaties worked. They took advantage of the language barrier between them and the Indigenous to trick them into losing the majority of their land. The Indigenous people felt confused and wronged after the treaties, which increased the conflict between them and the British that was already present from past events.

As far as I understand it, the treaty negotiations further contributed to the tensions between the Canadian government, and Indigenous people.

The government is like the people with the rules, they have a far better understanding of the law, treaty, it’s loopholes and they take advantage of it to avoid giving indigenous people their rights that they deserve. Their position of power and authority also allowed them to take advantage of indigenous people.

The indigenous people are like the people who didn’t have the rules, since they don’t have as good of an understanding of negotiating for a treaty, the government was able to take advantage of them to further their agenda and take their rights away.

I think that the negotiation process was unfair for the Indigenous people. Also there wasn't much communication between which made it hard to negotiate. Also the indigenous people didn't like this which caused conflicts between both groups.

The treaty negotiation process contributed to conflict because Western negotiators were taking advantage of the language barrier. Indigenous people did not have the same negotiating powers or experience with written agreements as the other signatories, nor did they understand the terms that they were agreeing to. This meant that they legally signed agreements that did not benefit them and thus lost the communal land. Canada used unfair tactics to ensure that the trade agreements were advatageous to themselves.

From my understanding the treaty negotiation process was difficult because of the language barrier. I would assume that Canada made the treaty more beneficial for them and indigenous had no say because of the language barrier. Thus, resulting in a major conflict between the two.
