Conferring challenges- It takes me 15 minutes to conference with a student and I have 20 students. It is a challenge for me to be able to meet with every once a week. 
Other wonderings- How many pieces of writing would a writer publish in one unit of study? How do we guide writers to edit their spelling during conferring sessions? Do we guide them by highlighting only misspelled high frequency words or all misspelled words?
