The Haymarket Riot was an end result of an unhappy labor force that had long been asking for better working conditions. They wanted to work less hours as10-12 seemed too much and would fatigue them. Some would work overnight or early and some of these places needed to be improved in many ways. However, the corporations that monopolized these laborers thought this would hurt the economy. As a result, they begin to riot and protest for these changes to be made. On May 4^th, 18186 a large group of these protesters had amassed in Haymarket Square Chicago with 8 leaders total. As the masses died down police tried to dispel everyone but ended up causing someone to throw a bomb at them injuring and killing some of them. The police fired back into the crowd leaving many more injured and some deceased. The leaders of the protest were blamed for this since as the court said, they instigate and persuaded people to act this way. 7 of them were condemned to be executed and one would be imprisoned. This left the people of the United States appalled due to unfair judgment and the way the government handled this.

The city in which this happened (Chicago) industrialized very quickly due to its transportation, agriculture and trade, as well as the immigrants and residents seeking jobs. This made the transportation of goods and people very efficient. The railroads were a massive breach that made the city grow exponentially turning It into crucial industrial center.

The McCormick Killings was what incited the Haymarket Riot. At the site laborers went outside to confront strikebreakers who were trying to take their jobs only to get shot down by police. This unfair treatment incited an uproar that would lead to the Haymarket Riot the next day.
