The Smith-Hughes Vocational Act was established. This act provided federal funds to states for high school courses in vocational education and also led to the idea of establishing the FFA organization.

Leslie Applegate from NJ was elected as the 1st National President. Henry Groseclose, known as the father of FFA, was elected executive secretary-treasurer.

The 1st national meeting of the NFA was held at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. FFA membership had topped 100,000 with more than 3,900 chapters in 47 states, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. That same year, the New Farmers of America was established to provide leadership opportunities to African-American students enrolled in vocational education classes.
