This Collection consisted of two exhibits, one demonstrating the arrival of the Spanish and the other emphasizing the resultant conflict between the Neo-Indians of the Caribbean. In addition the both exhibits are directly located opposite to each, which we assume illustrates the contrasting culture between the two . It therefore illustrates a revisionist perspective as from a Eurocentric perspective on history, the Neo-indians were wild and did not have a culture and fell into two groups, the peaceful “Arawaks” and the warlike “Caribs”.

Furthermore, due to the ethnocentric view of the Spanish, there was a clash of the cultures of Spanish and the Indigenous people which resulted in the subsequent, enslaving and extinction of the indigenous people. The ethnocentric view is further illustrated in the text, “The First Discovery of the West Indies,” which speaks to the Spanish discovering the West Indies, when there were other inhabitants there prior to their arrival.

The ship under the “Conflict of Cultures” exhibit illustrates the arrival of the Spanish which is symbolic of the colonialism which is found in the history most Caribbeean territories. As such it aids to define the Caribbean through historical similarity.
