State and local governments were responsible for the poor throughout the Great Depression because they provided assistance to people in need! According to the article "Great Depression Poverty", there were almost 18 million elderly, disabled, and single mothers with multiple children that were living at the basic subsistence. Since there was an uneven amount of income distributed and many more Ameircans joining the lower class, almost 60% of Americans have been suffering before the Great Depression hit even hit America! Since there were jobs, families had to join "Bread Lines" and "Soup Kitchens" to feed themselves and men had to leave to different parts of the country in search of employment!

According to the article "Cause of the Great Depression" by Brain Duignan there are several factors that contrinuted to the start of the Great Depression, for example, steep decline in industrial production and in prices, mass unemployment, banking panics, and sharp increase in poverty were all factors that contributed to the Great Depression. During the 1920s, the United States stock market crashed and stock prices fell by 33 percent. This resulted in a loss of confidence in the economy for both consumers and businsses. Also, the banks experienced "panics" where a large number of bank customers withdrew all their deposits in cash leading to Roosevelt shutting down all the banks until they could prove they were liable to government inspectors.

There are many reasons that you could blame for the cause of the Great Depression, one could be, the federal government's fault for relucting to increase the money supply, in source 2, it says "The Feds raised interest rates again to preserve the dollar's value. That further restricted the availability of money for businesses. More bankruptcies followed. The Feds did not increase money supply to combat deflation." It also said, "The feds ignored the banks' plight." Showing that the Federal Government caused this panic and did nothing to stop it. The other person it could possibly be was Herbert Hoover because in source 1; it says, "Hoover failed to recognize the severity of the situation or leverage the power of the federal government to squarely address it." Showing that he also ignored it just as much as the feds did. Source 1 also said, "Hoover’s response to the crisis was constrained by his conservative political philosophy. He believed in a limited role for government and worried that excessive federal intervention posed a threat to capitalism and individualism. He felt that assistance should be handled on a local, voluntary basis." Showing that he had the power to stop it but he stuck with what he believed was best which turned out to be the wrong choice.
Sources: https://www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/herbert-hoover#:~:text=Herbert%20Hoover%20(1874%2D1964),minds%20of%20the%20American%20people.And Source 2: "The Great Depression, What Happened, What Caused It, How It Ended" By Kimberly Amadeo

I believe FDR is responsible for helping the poor. In the "New Deal" article posted on the History websites it shows why FDR helped poor's during the great depressions. He came up with these amazing projects called the New Deal and there were 4 of them that helped the poor. The 2 main ones I believed mostly help was the Civil Construction corps which meant it gave millions of young men employment on environmental projects; the other association is the Works Program Administration which was an ambitious employment and infustructure.
We can learn many things from the great depressions. In the article "The Great Depression" By Suzanne McCabe she wrote about her experience and it was not all sunshine and rainbows she learned, not to waste food ,also not to extravagant about materials, to conserve natural resources, and importance of having a budget, and we should take it from someone with personal experience that we should not take things for granted.
Herbert hoover was to blame for the great depression because his pro-labor policies, wage freeze and job-sharing ideas were harmful to the economy.

There are many reasons for people saying FDR because he was president. But in "Great Depression what caused it and how did it end" it says "The feds should be responsible for helping the poor because of their reluctance to increase the money supply." They wanted to increase the money so much but the decreased it and destroyed the supply. It also says "They raised the interest rates again but before that the raised the fed funds rate" They destroyed the economy and should have been held reliable for their actions. This caused all of the people who had invested to withdraw all of their money from the banks and leave some people with no money to withdraw. The feds just ignored the banks' plight. But the people who were lucky and able to withdraw their money, they would hide their money under their mattresses.

I believe the government is responsible in helping the poor. Even before the depression many people were struggling (60% of the population). One of the reasons is because there was an uneven amount of distribution in income. The government is at fault for this since the government overall purpose is to make life better for the people. They have the power to create and pass laws and acts. The government, overall didn't do much about it (something big in particular) until fdr made the new deal. There was the New Deal program, although it helped millions and had a huge impact, there was still people in poverty sadly. If the government had done something similar to the "Neal Deal" way earlier before the amount of people in poverty and those who are unemployed increased dramatically over time, I personally think it would've better. It wouldn't leave a huge amount of people at risk but instead it would give them a path to go to when they're loosing about everything.

source: Great Depression Poverty.

I think the Government is responsible for helping the poor. I do because if the government is running everything and they help the country with money profits, then why would they keep letting people suffer and struggle through the great depression in the first place. Now I'm not saying that its all of the government fault because before the great depression , all people did was take risky decisions with there money. In "Article 2" it says that "Americans from all walks of life rushed to invest their money in stocks, expecting to sell them and make profit." It also states that "Many people took out risky loans and even mortgaged their houses, to buy stocks." That all caused the stock prices to very high levels that were far beyond what the stocks were worth. Now people did some very risky things in the 1920's, but now since the government see's all of the suffering that is going on, they need to do something quick, or the population will start to slowly decrease and businesses will start to go lower than they already were.
I personally think that the blame for the Great Depression is the past chairman of the Federal Reserve, the central bank. In "Article 1" It states that " It used tight monetary polices when it should of done the opposite." It also states that " The Fed did not put enough money in circulation to get the economy going again. Instead, the Fed allowed the total supply of U.S dollars to fall by a third." This proves why the Fed is a blame for the Great Depression. The Fed around this time only did things that would benefit them so therefore, they are the main blame the the Great Depression.

there are a couple of reasons for the great depression the first are drought and boil weevils which caused Georgia to go in a mini depression be for the whole world followed it first of the droughts caused lack of water meant less water for livestock drinking and plants with this it caused the cotton production to plummeted also the boil weevil was detrimental to Georgia's economy bringing the production of cotton to go from around 1.7 million to around 500k by ruining the boil of the cotton plant causing it to be ruined and worthlessness.

also you could say that the federal reserve is to blame like in the article The great depression, what happen. What caused it, how it ended because after everyone converted there money to gold do to the instability of the dollar the feds main goal was to preserve the value of the dollar in doin this they did not increase the production and increased the interest rate and reduced the availability of the dollar causing many businesses to go bankrupt of the dollar with this more bankruptcy issued

i feel that FDR and the new deal programs are responsible for helping the poor take the CCC for example they supplied jobs to young adults and built many national parks and roads also the AAA which gave a wider variety the crops that farmers by paying them to grow other crops besides cotton leaving them less reliant on one crop and returning the price of cotton. and the SSA gave money to elderly and the disabled affected by the Great depression to help them get on there feet.
