I enjoy it because it is a lowly populated island and yet very close to Tauranga city. The beaches are very beautiful and it has great areas for wake boarding, water skiing and swimming.
Between 1993 and 1999 the ownership of Matakana Island's 10,000 acres (4,047 ha) forest and freehold land was in dispute. The island is currently owned by multiple maori tribes. Most of the island is coverd in pine trees.

Moturiki or ‘Leisure Island’ has seen many different attractions over the past decades that include an aquarium / zoo in the sixties and then a very popular water park in the seventies and eighties that even included waterslides and bumper boats! Now it has been restored to a more natural appearance with many native trees and birds living on it.

Moturiki Island is special to me because we used to visit it a lot when I was young and I still enjoy spending time there on sunny days with my friends and family.

Mount Maunganui also known as Mauao is an extinct volcano and is 232 metres above sea level. The Maori name for the mt is Mauao and means caught by the sun.

There are so many super cool opportunities and fun things to do! T.I.S first started way back in 1958. It is the largest Intermediate school in New Zealand with well over 1,300 students in it. Tauranga Intermediates moto is Kimihia kia taea - Explore and achieve. The school even has its own Ngamuwahine camp.

Tauranga Intermediate is my current school and my second home! I am in Tanekaha house which is the best house with the best teachers in it! Tanekaha was introduced to the school in 2006. The Tanekaha house motto is "Kia toa kia ngakau nui"which means be brave and passionate! Also the Tanekaha house chant means "Be strong, keep going, get stuck in!"

I really love Tauranga Intermediate, I have learnt lots and I am having so much fun!
