"Harry potter and the philosopher's stone"
by J.K. Rowling
The main theme of the first part of Harry Potter is the eternal confrontation of good and evil, the struggle of which is always long and difficult, but in the end , good always wins, because on its side is friendship, love and faith in good.
Marina thinks that this book is interesting for everyone who likes the world of fiction. Especially for children. Marina believes that in this book everything is quite rosy and the heroes do not bear any losses . Moreover, this is a fairy tale with a good plot and a good ending. Marina loves this part of Harry Potter, because she believes that there are a lot of bad moments in life and we need to get away from it.

But the book also reflects the theme of family , what role the family plays in the life of each child.

So, Alina considers that this book is adapted for children from 8 years old who like to read horror, but if they are not impressed with the book, they can watch a cartoon based on this book, which has a slightly different presentation of the content.

Nothern lights Philip Pullman
After reading the reviews of critics , I can conclude that the themes pointed out by Alyona are the most relevant in this novel. Reading the novel we may point out such topics : Innocence, Power (Through encountering cruelly powerful characters like Mrs. Coulter, Lyra develops from being a bully to being a protector.), Fate and Free Will (According to "The Golden Compass", it is better to live in a world driven by free will than by fate.) and Lies and Deceit.

Assessments of critics and Alena's point of view are identical. This novel has high ratings.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by Joanne Rowling is a wonderful story about the wizard Harry Potter, his friends and education at Hogwarts. Viktoriya emphasizes that the main theme is the confrontation of good and evil. The book explores the themes of friendship and love between Harry and his friends, as well as their relationship to Dobby and Headless Nick. Viktoriya likes this book because she was hooked on the idea that everything is in our hands and everything depends on our decisions and actions, like, for example, the decision of Harry Potter to get into Gryffindor.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a comedy science fiction series created by Douglas Adams. The novel tells about the adventures of the unlucky Englishman Arthur Dent and his friend Ford Prefect. There are many problems in the book. The Value of Knowledge is the main theme. In Adams’ view, curiosity is thus very much a cherished and useful virtue. Besides, there is a real friendship, which is demonstrated by the characters. Adams suggests there's little point to having expectations or considering yourself part of a larger plan: you are merely here and now, and you ought to make the most of it.
Besides, this book is very interesting. The book contains many references of a scientific, pop, and artistic nature. However, the book has a large number of plot twists that make the text difficult to understand. This book is suitable for anyone who is interested in science fiction. Besides, you can find combination real life with unreal powers.

However, the bad is always followed by the good. The bad is represented by Dementors , and the good represents the Patronus's charm. In my opinion, the black stripe is always followed by a light one. And at the end of the book, Harry is given a chance at a new, happy life with his family.

In this novel several themes can be distinguished. According to Anna's choice the main themes are meaninglessness (searching for meaning of life and existence), power and control (life of one creatures depends on other more powerful ones), coincidence and chance (everything in the Universe happens by chance and no one can confront it), communication and misunderstanding (sometimes we fail to understand each other because of differences in our motives and values ), and absurd (the Universe is an absurd place where everything is possible).
As for Anna's evaluation of the book, she admits that it allows us to think over usual things from the new and very unusual point, and the author's philosophy is fascinating. Although, the narration is rather difficult to perceive because of the occuring absurdity.

The Ruby in the Smoke by Philip Pullman This story covers the problem of drugs( the distractive influence of them is shown both directly and indirectly) . An addictive substance becomes a symbol of destruction in the book. The main heroine is searching for the ruby but this intention appears fatal for surrounding people. Apart from the main topic, author evaluates problems of mercy, compassion and parental love. Julie strongly believes that this book can make a positive effect on children s behavior because it teaches little boys and girls to appreciate something they have and to keep love in their hearts even in the most difficult times.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone provides a doorway into a magical world. In addition to garden-variety witches and wizards, there are magic trains and magic candies. A boarding school often thought of as an ordinary thing becomes tinged through and through with the extraordinary – with magic.
Also, the family is a very important theme throughout Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He visited the farm where everything went down and remembered all the strange, mystical occurrences but the minute he steps foot off that property it all seems like a dream that's too hard to remember clearly. Vika was impressed by this story. She finds it interesting, full of discriptions of friendship and love.

In our early years life seems to us more pleasant, with significant events and experiences. However, when we grow up, all our tender memories fade. That is why many adults are so strict to children: they do not remember how they were kids themselves.
Veronica was really impressed by this book, because she found an echo of her own childhood in the story. She really likes children literature and moreover, she felt like a child while reading the novel. She didn't feel like she was instructed or manipulated, she just enjoyed the book.

'Watership Down' by Richard Adams is a book about rabbits who try to survive, find a new home and start a family. So, the subject of this story is the eternal circle of life where everything repeats and anything can change immediately and irrevocably.
Dasha Zimina chose the words of one of the characters called Strawberry as the thesis statement of the book - ‘Animals don't behave like men, he said. 'If they have to fight, they fight; and if they have to kill they kill. But they don't sit down and set their wits to work to devise ways of spoiling other creatures' lives and hurting them. They have dignity and animality.' They are also about freedom, life, and death. As for Dasha's evaluation of the book, she likes it because of its unusual point of view on rabbits (they have their army and fairy tales) and philosophical ideas.
By Barkova Ekaterina

"Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone" by J.K. Rowling is a fantasy novel written by British author J. K. Rowling. It is the first novel in the Harry Potter series and Rowling's debut novel that includes several themes, such as friendship, love, the struggle between good and evil, sacrificing and rebellion. One of the main ideas is that true friend can sacrifice for each other ( in the novel we see how, for example, Harry, takes risks to save his friends Ron and Hermione).
Kate thinks that this book is worth reading by everyone because apart from the already mentioned themes and ideas, the author reveals the idea of people`s choice. During the whole story, the characters make decisions on good or evil. The fact is that our choice makes our own personality. The episode where the hat indicates Harry`s faculty confirms it. Kate likes this book as she considers that it can teach children and adults to be more prudent, patient and kind.
I like this book very much and I' grateful that Kate Barkova let me sink into wizard's world again

In the analysis of the book "Caroline", written by Neil Gaiman, Natasha quite accurately identified the main idea and the problems and experiences of the characters involved in the work. The book has many really significant themes and deep ideas, despite the fact that this is a story for children. Among them, the most important are:

home and family and relationships between family members; harm from manipulation and overcoming one's own fears. However, the main idea is that even if your family is not perfect, it is still your family, people who will support you and love you, even if it does not seem so at first glance.

Natasha says that the book is adapted for all ages, despite the simple style, this book will also be interesting for adults, because it contains creepy moments with elements of horror and the plot tightens with its mysterious story, from the very moment when Caroline is in trouble. Natasha recommends this book to read, because she has only a positive impression from reading.
