This could lead to, if not properly dealt with, more issues arising which could possibly lead to the collapse of CARICOM.

With learning more about the CSME I have realized that this is a very ingenious way of allowing free movement of skills and labor throughout the Caribbean. This can either be a benefit to a country or a detriment. The benefit in terms of needed labor or skills entering a country which will in turn help improve the economy of that country.

Detrimentally, with the free movement, persons can travel to different countries and in turn become a burden to that country. They may not be skilled or have the desired qualifications and thus the country will then have to support that individual taking resources away from the economy.

West Indies Cricket

Established in the 1890s, the game of cricket was used as a means of colonial control and a means to make “good citizens” out of those who played the sport. Based on the sporting regime of the times, anyone playing the game were to exhibit traits preferred by the imperialists. In this manner, they were to maintain and establish more conformist individuals, fostering loyalty, obedience, and respect for authority. This lead to the establishment of the WICB (West Indian Cricket Board)

Cricketers in the Caribbean used the sport as a means of social protest. This also brought out a Caribbean camaraderie where persons from individual islands gave up their national identity to become part of something more on a regional or Caribbean scale. Representing not only their countries but the Caribbean as a whole.

As a Caribbean person, I know that integration is not as easy as it seems. Coming from a colonial background and slavery, integration was not an easy thing to come by. Today's society has become so Westernized that we have lost our Caribbean heritage and what it truly means to be Caribbean,
Looking back on what I've learned from this class I can safely say that what we learned is not always the truth. We must take it upon ourselves to search for that truth. We need to redefine who we are as a Caribbean people and maintain and nurture that belief and way of life so we can share it with and instill in the psyche of the future generations.
