Arachne, and Icarus, both fell because they did not listen to others warnings and opinions. if Arachne had backed down, she wouldn't have been turned. Both characters also ignored their own limitations and decided to go a lot over the line. And when you go a lot over the line there is going to be a point where you hit something. Culture plays a big part in this because the Greeks are big about limitations and learning what are your limits. Also, as for culture, both cultures noted that the gods and elements should not be forsaken.
