2.  Read the first paragraph or introduction because often the most important information appears in the beginning of an article.
3.  Look for topics and subtopics.  You can usually spot them by their different kinds of print and their special locations on the page or screen.
4.  Read the captions that accompany illustrations and maps.  Use the information if you need it.
5.  Do not become distracted by information that you do not need for your assignment.  Often articles include more information than you will need.
6. Keep track of your sources. Make sure your notes include the sources you used.
