"The Chocolate Touch" is about a young, self-centered, greedy boy named John Midas. The reader quickly finds out that John essentially loves chocolate more than anything! He is selfish when it comes to chocolate, and will do anything to get his hands on it. One day as he's walking down the street, he comes across a coin. The coin had an image of a fat boy on one side, and John's initials (J.M.) on the other. Initially, John comes up with a plan to start a coin collection with his neat new coin. That idea is soon thrown out the window when he approaches a candy shop. This shop was full of all different types of candy and sweet aromas that tempted every inch of John. He eventually caved in and goes inside. Long story short, John traded his newly found coin for a single piece of delicious chocolate. When John wakes up in the morning, his world is turned upside down. Everything his mouth touched turned to chocolate! Of course, in the beginning, he loved every bit of the experience. Slowly but surely, John became annoyed with the curse. After a series of unfortunate events, John is determined to reverse the chocolate spell his was under to turn his life back to normal. I enjoyed this book because it can be a great lesson for children of all ages who love to
over-indugle into things that aren't so good for them (like sweets or electronics). All children can relate to this text.

With this book, I can teach my students not to be greedy, be self-less, and to be careful what they wish for. I can also use this book as a writing prompt for my students to write about what they think they'd do if everything they touched turned to chocolate.
