Camp is where I found my people. I love this community with all of my heart - each camper, staff, parent, volunteer, supporter over the years has helped to shape the Nor'wester experience and make it what it is today, and I am so grateful.
I remember the sunset on Changeover at the top of Mt. Constitution, I remember watermelon bits on the airstrip, I remember crazy costumes on the square dance floor, I remember shooting stars to tuck us in, I remember the glow of the fire in lodge while Paul sings Paradise, I remember packing into puppy piles in the lodge, I remember slackjaw competitions with Explorers, I remember cruising on the water with Lyle, I remember working hard with amazing crews of people over the years, I remember the tears when we leave at the end of each summer...
I met all of these beautiful spirits below in the summer of 2009, and the memories I made with them, and others at Camp since, will always be in my heart.

I watched the big house get built and sat at Chief Mungo Martin’s feet.
I loved the horse Queenie. I loved building fires in the shower house so we could shower. I loved overnights, eating food we cooked over fires, which was often filled with sand. I loved singing after meals.
As a unit leader, I learned how to teach and encourage kids. I learned to be strong to help campers have great experiences. I sang in the Kwakiutl choir and danced in the Potlatch dances. What a treasure.
Rabbit and Tyee And the Helsell’s were incredible leaders and role models.
Thank you Henderson/Norwester Camp.

Helping rebuild camp on Johns, making sure all the traditions, philosophy, activities, out-camp trips that made Camp on Sperry Nor'wester continue on Johns island for campers and generations to come! Making sure the magic that is Nor'wester continues! It is a life changing place no matter the location. It is a place where you learn who you are, what you are capable of, how to live with others and be stewards of the earth! Really we're not a cult, but we are more then just a summer camp, we are Nor'wester!
Best Memories, big trips, singing in the lodge, running overnights with Lyle in the whalers, the smell, sounds and dancing in the Bighouse, sleeping in a tipi, driving the mog, hearing campers laughter through the trees, seeing campers become staff, the craftshop go from an army tent to an amazing building come to life with creativity, hanging the Olympic flags in the early morning in the lodge. Square dancing in the lodge, Running Mt Baker/Alpine trips across the water to Roche as the sun comes up. Sleeping out under the stars with friends. the list goes on, a life time of memories! I loved my years on Sperry, and spent several days camping there when we had to say goodbye to that wonderful peninsula. Carla and Darcy Leach and I sang at the last Sperry Chapel that final day. I also brought my sons, and then-husband, to many Family Camps, right after the purchase of Johns. In those 8 weeks I was there I had more experiences than in the entire year before. All these little kids came to me with scratches and bumps on their knees but many times I think they just wanted someone to fuss over them. I loved the craftshop and the horses and the singing and dancing and the evenings by the fire, and the smell of the trees. I met so many wonderful people. That was one of the best experiences of my life.
One of my fondest memories: seeing the Northern Lights on an overnight during stafftraining. We were sitting at the beach, i don't remember where, and the Northern Lights appeared. I had never seen them before. It was awe inspiring.
Photo: staff Training Overnight 1991, : Laura Todd, Hillary Day, Syd Ley, Dana House, Dan

Too many here to list, but both counselors and campers introduced me to the music that makes up my soundtrack, the ideas and values that I hold so dear and of course my love for adventure and willingness to try new things. My memories of camp are so filled with lady love, so much laughter and lots of swims in the phosphorescence. I remember returning to Johns in the summer of 2001 after returning from studying abroad. Settling into my tipi, I finally felt grounded again. I was home. Where I knew who I was, and where I wanted to be.
Favorite memories include seeing Orcas swim by Pebble Beach during staff training (the only time in 3 summers I saw them!), dock-staff night off (Mollie and Liz!), and the milk bucket boogie (Liz, Mollie, and Bayley!). Also attending family camp with my two kids and singing with them in the lodge - songs I've been singing to them since they were born.
Favorite song - Piney Wood Hills, especially sung by Scott.
