Time and place poetry is mostly focused on Romantic poets. Poems that surround this theme focus on how time affects places either drastically or not at all. Most regularly criticising modernisation or urbanisation. However, some can also be about people changing too.

Michael Jackson's a Poet?

Yes, that’s true, he wrote lyrics which can be used quite like poem stanzas. One song that relates to time and place is Man in the Mirror. After a time, Michael realises that he should make a change in the world and he explains that the man in the mirror should change first before he makes others change. He mentions seeing children without food to eat, showing how far the poverty crisis has come. Personally, I think that he was appalled and frustrated that no one was standing up and making a change so he wrote this song to show that he was going to do it first. What makes this song very important is that Michael Jackson is rather famous so he would impact many others to change for the better good. This would then, after a time cause the place to change.

This drawing was inspired by the poem: ‘To Autumn’ by John Keats. The poem refers to the ‘cottage-trees’ and this to me implies a sense of comfort and a homely idea of autumn. Therefore, I drew a cottage in the shape of a tree. I then added harvested bits of barren land or ‘stubble-plains'. Then I added corns on the cob as leaves because of ‘sweet kernel’. I chose the apples as stepping stones because the path bends such as the line ‘to bend with apples’.
