How Settings Affect Characters and Plots by Maria Powley

In your own words, describe how a setting (time and place) can have an impact on a character or drive the plot of a story. Provide an example (Not Harry Potter) to support your opinion.

The setting of most of the story was in a death train (a kind of torture that they used in the Holocaust). The setting really affected the main character Marion. After she got of the death train she was 11 years old and weighed about 75 pounds. The setting of a story can effect how a character thinks in a way that if they were the antagonist and they saw some time period or place they might think about things in a different way.

The setting can affect the Characters in many ways, when a character is in an environment that he/she doesn't like they feel secluded and sad. But when their setting changes to something that makes them realize there is a light or in my stories case that "I don't have it so bad." I chose hatchet for my story because Brian hates his life, his parents are divorced and he moves from one parent to another every summer. But he realizes that he doesn't have it so bad he has a loving Family and doesn't have to live in the woods which he used to have to do.

If she didn't attend to the book burning she wouldn't of stole her second book, and then the Mayor's wife wouldn't have saw her, and if that didn't happen the mayor's wife wouldn't of showed Liesel her library. It continues on. Ther many more cause and effects in this book.
The book burning and everything that leads up to the library drives the plot forward because without those things she would have no more books to keep her interest, if you have no interest in books why take such a risk to steal them. Then there would be no book.

Land Of Stories
I think that the setting changed Alex for the worse because she was was normal girl who had just discovered how the fairy tale book had special powers, because it was a portal to the fairy-tale world. since then she has been stressed out saving the fairy-tale world, fighting armies, became Fairy Godmother and was fixing the fairy-tale world's problems. I think that alex has been fighting the fairy-tale world flow and is working too much to save the fairy-tale world. On the other hand, Conner changed to the flow of the fairy-tale world. He used the fairy tale world's stories to make his own stories for his school. He decided to make his life a both world life, by using the fairy-tale world at his advantage. the setting really helped Conner.

Patrice is in the future fighting almost only Z-mechs and Citron (a bounty-hunter orange from the future) is helping her. Patrice's plan was to make Zomboss (boss of zombies) take an E.M.
