What things are you now able to express in Spanish that you have learned in Spanish II (concepts)? (in English)

There are countless things that I am now able to express in Spanish that I have learned in Spanish II. In unit one, I learned how to use both singular and plural subject pronouns. I can express articles too: el, los, la, las, un, unos, una, unas. This includes masculine singular and plural and feminine singular and plural. To add, these include definite and indefinite. I can also tell when a verb is regular or irregular and change the endings of -ar, -er, and -ir verbs. In unit two, I learned about reflexive nouns, indirect object pronouns, and direct object pronouns. I absorbed the verbs duchar and leventar, and their endings. Plus, llamarse and ducharse. I also gained adjective in Spanish that can be used to describe people. In unit three, I learned how to express preterite regular verbs, along with examples (vivir and perder). I mastered that preterite “ir” verb. Finally, I was taught about the preposition por. In unit four, I learned how to express saber and conocer at the correct times. In addition, I know when to use the imperfect version and that special considerations are irregulars, descriptions, feelings, emotions in the past, age/time in the past, and how you were, what you were like in the past. Ser, ver, and ir are verb and I learned the imperfect irregular versions of those words. In unit five, I began learning when to use preterite and when to use imperfect as well as words in these tenses. Along with this, más que + menos que was discussed in this unit. In unit six, I learned about the irregular preterite versus the irregular imperfect. In unit seven, I learned vocabulary that describes things and imperfect progressives. Also, adjetivos demostrativos and Adjetivo o Pronombre Demostrativo. I continued grasping the concept of imperfect preterites and the many types of object pronouns. There are an innumerable amount of things I have learned in Spanish II, but these were just a select few from each unit.

What differences have you seen between the Spanish language and your native language? (in English)

Throughout Spanish II, I have learned similarities between my language and the Spanish language. For example, when taking notes for every lesson, I can see that there are cognates and tenses are used in both languages. However, there are several differences between the two languages. For instance, when writing in Spanish I have to add accents to certain letters in certain words: á, é, í, ñ, ó, ú, and sometimes ü. When writing a sentence with exclamation points in Spanish, you start the sentence with ¡ and end it with !. To add to this, placement in sentences can differ sometimes. What I mean by this is, if I were to think of a sentence in English, I could not write it the exact same way in Spanish. In the Spanish language, certain words have stem changes where e → ie, e → i, and o → ue. The English language does not have stem changes.

What did you find interesting and exciting about the Spanish culture? (in English)

There are a multitude of things that I find exciting about the Spanish culture. A few examples of specific things I have learned include that Spain’s tile is highly sought-after in the world and is very expensive”. It is popular in buildings, monuments, castles, architecture. Architects, pottery, and so many other art forms. Spain is overall deemed to be an artistic country, with lots on creativity. Spaniards are so innovative and efficient too. The underground cave houses, casas cuevas, is one of the oldest kinds of housing known to man, yet not utilized often in developed countries. In addition, the King and Queen are fluent in several languages including: Spanish, English, and French. The King is also fluent in Portuguese and Italian. The Queen is also fluent in Greek and German. Carnival is an extremely festive celebration that occurs right before Lent and celebrated around the world (in Catholic countries), not just Spain. To hang out with your friends, dress up in fun costumes, dance to music, eat good foods, and watch fireworks must be an awesome thing incorporated into your culture. Also, flamenco music and dancing is extremely popular in Spain and because dancing is my passion this interests me. It would be exciting to take a class or even teach it. Spain is a world leader in exporting oranges, mandarins, olives, olive oil, wine (grapes), and sugar beets. All types of meat are produced in the country as well, but not to the same degree as in other locations. A lot of food production come from Spain, so the food we eat may have come from Spain. Lastly, shopping in Barcelona is well known because the city has reinvented itself in the last decade and created a vibrant shopping scene in the process. Big names can be found such as Chanel, Max Mara, Loewe, Benetton, Zara and Diesel. Through Spanish II NCVPS, I have learned numerous things about Spain that I never knew.

I want to obviously learn new words and phrases to use in everyday life or in general. Another thing I would like to learn and improve on is my speaking.

I have always been in an online Spanish class and never in a classroom with a teacher present. As a result of this, learning a foreign language has been difficult. My online teachers have taught me the basics, as well as more complicated and intricate things. Sra. Debord was a blessing to have as a teacher and I couldn’t imagine having any other teacher to help me with Spanish. I am an independent worker, but when I needed help she was always there to guide me in the right direction and gave a few words of encouragement. The NCVPS Canvas site is super easy to navigate and understand, although a little confusing at first, after a week it isn’t so terrible. All the opportunities and practice that NCVPS has, provides for each and every student to succeed. This proves that the North Carolina Virtual Public School wants every student to do their best and pass the courses with their best effort.

First of all, I loved my teacher! Besides that, I loved the Canvas website as well as the individual modules. The modules were separated into categories, so it was clear to the student what you are studying at a given time. The practice grammar quizzes and vocabulary quizzes are extremely useful. I tried my best to do those when I could, but sometimes my other 6 classes got the best of me. I like the fact that I have my teachers phone number because it is much easier than email and I am more likely to get a quicker response. I like and love so many things about this course, however, there is one thing I do not like. The required live classes are not my favorite. I like the concept, but I could hardly ever attend because of the times. I am quite busy during the week, so after balancing classroom schoolwork, a job, lots of dance classes, etc. attending an RLC can be kind of tricky. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoy NCVPS!

I did numerous things to help myself learn Spanish in this course. To start, I actually took notes for every single lesson. The notes slideshows were provided, but you never had to turn in your notes, so if I did not take them, my teacher would not know. However, I did take notes for every lesson in every module. This is a tremendous chunk of my success because it was always a reference when I needed it and it allowed me to focus heavier on what my teacher wanted me to learn at the point in time. I have not decided whether or not I am going to continue learning Spanish in the future or not, but if I do I will practice practice practice. I can incorporate Spanish into my everyday life whether having conversations with my friends, ordering at a restaurant, or teaching someone else. I am always going to be open to learning new things and trying to better myself.

You should include material learned from all units (school, apartment, family, hobbies, food, shopping experiences, and community).

La comunidad era muy buena en España. La gente en España son simpática. Es un lugar turístico. Turistas en España ir muchos el lugares: el consultorio, la iglesia, el salón de belleza, y el hospital. La piscina era mi favorita. En España, observo mucho. Miro la naturaleza y observo las flores, los insectos, y animales. Mi favorita cosas a observo son la catarata y el paisaje. El ambiente tiene buen tiempo. Estaba muy triste por dejar España, es bonita.
