That same year, Long Han, MD, completed a second residency in cardiovascular anesthesia at the Texas Heart Institute. In 1993 he earned a specialty certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology and in 1998 another certificate from the National Board of Echocardiography for the Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Examination.

At the start of his career, Long Han, MD, worked as an assistant professor of clinical anesthesia at University of Chicago Hospitals. He later joined MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, advancing to become the hospital’s medical director. In 2005, Dr. Han moved to Ascension Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago as an attending anesthesiologist. He performed cardiovascular and OB anesthesia as well as transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). By the time he left in 2023, he was the center’s medical director. He now offers consulting services on anesthesiology through Core Anesthesia Consultants LLC.

Dr. Han is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Echocardiographers, and International Anesthesia Research Society. He has published book chapters and journal articles on anesthesia and TEE. He has also presented before several medical associations.
