Aristotle's dad- Jaime is a mailman, but before he was in the military. The war changed him, and he is very quiet. He does not have a great relationship with Aristotle at first, because they never really talk. Though throughout the book their relationship progressively gets better.
Dante's mom- Soledad is a therapist. Her and Dante have a great relationship, and she loves Aristotle like a son. 
Dante's dad- Sam is an English professor and he has a great relationship with Dante as well as Aristotle. He is very caring and not very strict.

In the book, Aristotle called this a "very Mexican truck."  A couple of weeks later he got his leg casts off, and he started exercising to regain his strength. His mom, dad, sisters, and himself were the only family members that showed up at the funeral. The rest of the people were close friends of hers. When Aristotle was younger he spent 9 months living with his aunt, during the time of his brothers trial, because his parents knew he loved his brother and they did not want him to know what was happening. He did not remember much about his aunt, except for the fact that she was very kind and loving. Aristotle asked his mom why they were the only family members that showed, and his mom told him that she was gay and the rest of the family did not accept her. When he got home his parents were upset,, because his fathers friend told him about the fight. When he told his parents he did it for Dante they became less angry, and then finally opened up about his brother. His brother, Bernardo, had beaten someone to death with his bare hands and that is why his parents were angry. Aristotle's mom gave him a manila envelope labeled Bernardo. It was filled with pictures of his brother and this made Aristotle happy. Though he becomes jealous when Dante starts talking to the boy he was kissing in the alley. Aristotle feels as though that guy should have stayed with Dante, and that he was a wimp for fleeing. Later, his parents tell him that they know he is in love with Dante, and that they accept and they just want him to be happy. Dante's parents are very supportive as well when they find out that he is gay. At first, Aristotle feels ashamed to be in love with Dante, because it is unusual.
