It was so refreshing to hear her articulation and see her excitement for her task. I'm impressed with her grasp of abstract vs. concrete ideas and with her metacognitive awareness. How great that our students have this opportunity and mentorship from Mrs. Gutierrez. When we don't practice this tenet, students will soon see that the rigor level in your classroom is nonexistent and that all talk of "having high standards" is just that--talk. 

Part of our role as educators is to mold and mentor our pupils in the area of our discipline, whether that be English or PE. Students, by the end of the year, should leave our presence wiser, smarter, and more knowledgeable and competent in the area is which they literally just spent nine month of their lives (and ours). 

And you can't get there without true, authentic, and timely feedback. That's why I love Prokeys. It allows me to develop clear, nuanced, and hyperlinked feedback (or snippets) that I can then drop in at the touch of a key. What if I have a message that is slightly different than my saved comment? I just insert the comment and then go in and tweak it a bit to better serve my student. 

Between this extension and Mote, my students were able to experience relevant feedback in a much shorter time frame that allowed them, while the content was still relatively fresh in their minds, to go back to their work and wrestle with a little more. They were expected to DO something with that feedback. And, while holding students accountable is hard work, if we don't do it, we'll always be teaching and they'll always be learning at a mediocre level.
